Question about Harman Kardon AVR 225 Receiver
Harman Kardon AVR 225 5.1 When powered on the amp works fine but after 2 min. or so there is a low hum in the speakers and then the on screen menu begins to shake rapidly and disappears and works fine after a minute or two.I had the amp serviced and the tech corrected bad soldering spots. However I still have this problem. Is it a Ground Loop, bad or week output fuses? The tech said there were no bad caps or power supply problems. Any ideas or responses would be greatly appreciated. I got this from the manual page 43.
Resetting the Remote Memory
As you add components to your home-theater
system, occasionally you may wish to totally
reprogram the remote control without the confusion
of any commands, macros or ”Punch-
Through“ programming that you may have done.
To do this, it is possible to reset the remote to the
original factory defaults and command codes by
following these steps. Note, however, that once
the remote is reset, all commands or codes that
you have entered will be erased and will need to
1. Press any of the Input Selector buttons 4
and the ”O“ button Hat the same time until
the Program/SPL Indicator 2begins to flash
2. Press the ”3“ button Hthree times.
3. The red LED under the Input Selector4
will go out and the Program/SPL Indicator
2will stop flashing and turn green.
4. The Program/SPL Indicator 2will remain
green until the remote is reset. Note that this may
take a while, depending on how many commands
are in the memory and need to be erased.
5. When the Program/SPL Indicator 2goes
out, the remote has been reset to the factory settings.

This model does have a delay function. Programming is on page 19 of the user manual. Go to http://www.harmankardon.com/product_support/interstitial.aspx?sJump=ps&Region=USA&Country=US&Language=ENG select all products, AVR135, and get the owner's guide. If you have trouble with the link, then go to the Harmon Kardon site, and make your way to the support portal and then select all products.

SOURCE: My Harman Kardon receiver (
I used the live chat and the problem was resolved.
Usually the problem are strands of speaker wires which cause shorting and protection shuts off the receiver in order to prevent damage. There was one speaker that I repositioned recently which was causing shorting. I twisted the wires and tightened them in place and my receiver has been working w/o a glitch. I was lucky that I did not have to check all the wire strands on the receiver and all the speakers.
Problem solved and I learned valuable lesson.

Yes, although it (AVR) does not support HDMI only component video.
Connect the audio to the receiver and the video directly to the TV if you have inadequate video inputs, or want to take advantage of the HDMI.
