I bought this camera years ago to replace my other old sony that played 8mm and it worked for a few months then stopped. I need to be able to play the tapes so I can convert them to dvd. It seems like a simple solution, is there anyway i can remedy the problem

According to page 184 of the owner's manual, any error C:31:X or C:32:X you can fix by removing the cassette and re-inserting it again and/or disconnecting the power cord and removing the battery. After doing both of these steps, I'd also recommend using a paper clip and press the tiny reset button underneath the flip out display where all the other hidden buttons are for the camcorder.
SOURCE: Tape will not play...
After posting my request for info, I went to another forum (which I listed) and read...numerous times that when you haven't used your Camcorder for a while, mechanisms get stuck. Their advice was to actually hit your camcorder with some force several times. I thought that they could not possibly be serious. But... what did I have to lose. I hit the camcorder several times...inserted a tape and believe it or not, it played...also without any flickering.
I am so very pleased because my sister passed and the vidoe tape was of her.
I hope that this solution helps someone.

i know what setmaz says sounds kind of ridiculous; but i got desperate and tried it myself... i can say that as far as i go its a proven method and the camera will start working
SOURCE: have flashing yellow error, error code C:31:23,
Sony says C31 is a Tape Loading Error. They suggested removing the camera
battery. Then re-connect and then re-set the camera back to factory
conditions. If it persists it may require attention. May also be a mechanical problem such as
is the back Rubber wheel in the proper place and the white plastic
lock is not there? flip the camera upside down it's come out
(the white plastic lock) then place it BACK
It may also be a bent lever. Try the factory restore first.
