I bought this camera years ago to replace my other old sony that played 8mm and it worked for a few months then stopped. I need to be able to play the tapes so I can convert them to dvd. It seems like a simple solution, is there anyway i can remedy the problem

SOURCE: trv340 error code c:31:23

According to page 184 of the owner's manual, any error C:31:X or C:32:X you can fix by removing the cassette and re-inserting it again and/or disconnecting the power cord and removing the battery. After doing both of these steps, I'd also recommend using a paper clip and press the tiny reset button underneath the flip out display where all the other hidden buttons are for the camcorder.

SOURCE: Tape will not play...

After posting my request for info, I went to another forum (which I listed) and read...numerous times that when you haven't used your Camcorder for a while, mechanisms get stuck. Their advice was to actually hit your camcorder with some force several times. I thought that they could not possibly be serious. But... what did I have to lose. I hit the camcorder several times...inserted a tape and believe it or not, it played...also without any flickering.

I am so very pleased because my sister passed and the vidoe tape was of her.

I hope that this solution helps someone.

SOURCE: have flashing yellow error, error code C:31:23,

Sony says C31 is a Tape Loading Error. They suggested removing the camera battery. Then re-connect and then re-set the camera back to factory conditions. If it persists it may require attention. May also be a mechanical problem such as is the back Rubber wheel in the proper place and the white plastic lock is not there? flip the camera upside down it's come out (the white plastic lock) then place it BACK

It may also be a bent lever. Try the factory restore first.

I DID NOT USE MY TVR460 VIDEO CAMERA FOR 3 YEARS. NOW IT IS NOT RECORDING OR PLAYING ANY TAPE. IT CAN RECORD AND PLAY ONLY ON SONY MEMORY STICK.

Recording / Playback head is metal with a thin gap which quickly becomes corroded from simple condensation - unless stored with water absorbent material in airtight container. Sorry, (you needed a newer model anyway) ;-'

Video camera displaying Error code C:31:23

I have been fighting the same problem. I just now picked up the camera and a small rubber roller fell out of the tape door area. I was not sure where it came from but looking closer there are 4 small rods sticking up on the right side inside the area where the tape is located. It looked like this was where the roller went so I placed it on the center rod and replaced the tape. This solved the problem and I am now able to view and recored as before. There most likely is a part that has either fell or broken off or is loose inside the tape area.

FG fault when starting capstan.

Make sure battery is fully charged or a/c cord is used. Turn power on, and push reset button, try to eject tape again. Your capstan motor may be dead.

Sony handycam CCD-TRV308

I was getting the same code and a dinging noise. I tried a cleaner and I tried letting the camera dry out...it wasn't wet! Neither worked. SOOO...Don't buy a cleaner. Look inside camcorder and make sure both reel turners are equal in height...they can slide down. Turn both of them...one of mine was down and also did not turn to make contact with tape. We got it to turn and the message C31:23 and the dinging quit. The stripes/bars also went away. Camera1.gif instantly worked like it used to. Good luck.

DCR TRV320

That is the "LOAD" error code.

However, to service the C:31 code, Sony recommends you do the following:

  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
  4. Turn on the camcorder.
  5. If the error message appears, service may be required.
If your camcorder still shows the same error code, then you'll have to send in your camcorder for service.
