No. According to the camera specifications, the DMC-FZ20 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they will only work if the device has been designed to work with them.
You'll need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller. You also don't need to worry about speed. Any SD card you can buy now will be fast enough to keep up with the camera.

The higher the class number, the faster the card will record the video with no problems. Go for the Class 10.

Couple of things with this camera and I can feel your frustrations it took a few minutes for me to confirm my suspicions of what may be happening.
First off is the SDHC card unlocked here is a diagram

The next thing is after you make sure the memory card is unlocked attempt to format the card, that's format not delete pictures files formatting allows the camera dn memory card to properly communicate between each other.

Here is a diagram of the memory card capacity of yhour camera, it is for an SD card but SDHC generally are larger capacities, to me you are over the edge of the camera capacity.

Not finished yet, if you have fallen into this unfortunate happening you maybe able to update your camera firmware (which is software for a camera) to a newer version that will allow a larger SDHC memory card. The web link to updates and downloads can be searched through the above address

Should you use an 8gb sd memory card in a panasonic lumix dmc-fx3 camera ?

Hi,

The manual lists the following SD cards compatible:

4 GB SDHC Memory Card
2 GB SD Memory Card
1 GB SD Memory Card
512 MB SD Memory Card
256 MB SD Memory Card
128 MB SD Memory Card
64 MB SD Memory Card

An 8GB card may or may not work. If you try it, make sure it is an SDHC card. (Note: HC=High Capacity)

Thanks for using Fixya.

I just bought the Lumix DMC-ZR1 (yesterday April 3rd) When I put the memory card in, and it's blank, the camera reads that the memory card is full....how can I fix it??

In the instruction manual - see links below
  • It says DO NOT format on PC - you need to format in camera - have you done this? on Page 29 of the Manual http://panasonic.com.au/content/library/files/F002413.pdf

About cards that can be used in this unit You can use an SD Memory Card and SDHC Memory Card. •When the term card is used in these operating instructions this refers to the following types of Memory Cards. – SD Memory Card (8 MB to 2 GB) – SDHC Memory Card (4 GB to 32 GB) More specific information about memory cards that can be used with this unit. • You can only use an SDHC Memory Card if using cards with 4 GB or more capacity. • A 4 GB (or more) Memory Card without an SDHC logo is not based on the SD Standard and will not work in this product.

The MPEG2 recording can be used in various quality levels, with 8.5 to 5.5 Mbps constant bit rate and 4.2 and 1.5 MBit / s with a variable bit rate recording.

The read / write speed is 20480 kb/s (SanDisk data).
