I'm trying to get the spring over the friction pads on a centrifugal clutch

Dropped the clutch i'v got all the parts but can't seem to get the spring back over the friction plates

Hello sir, Please provide the following information so that your issue may be diagnosed properly,what is it? brand name,complete model number The problem, What is happening with what? When it is happening? Are there times it does not happen? Did it just start happening? Did it ever work ? Did any seemingly unrelated event coincide with whatever it is not working? need the model number and brand name, if you need a manual i need the brand name and model number,if it is a riding mower the model number is under the seat.a snow blower the model number is on the rear of the machine, let me know,thank you. ``

    What is fail safe mode for transmission in 2002 dodge stratus? What could cause fail safe mode to activate with the transmission


    I believe fail safe mode is usually direct drive which in most 4 speed transmissions is third gear. As far as what could cause this could be many things, electrical, clutch leakage or transmission oil bypassing the clutch that the transmission wants to engage, clutch slippage which could be the friction disks in a certain clutch that don't have any friction material left on them. IE like a brake pad the friction material on the pad once it is gone the brakes don't operate very good you have metal to metal contact you need to change your brakes. same concept. Are their any codes? Did the check engine light or transmission light come on? If you have a light try and see what the light says by scanning the computer. this should give you a good place to start.

    Put clutch into gear but no movement


    Replacing the clutch is fairly easy on most motorcycles. A factory repair manual is helpful and suggested, but in a nutshell, here's the proceedure.
    There is a round cover on the right side of the engine, this is the clutch cover. After draining the oil, remove the cover and this will expose the clutch pressure plate that will be retained with a number of washered bolts and springs. Remove the pressure plate, and the clutch plates can be removed. There will be alternating friction and steel plates-remove them all and keep them in a stack in the order they were removed. Soak the new friction plates in oil before installation. Install the new plates starting and ending with friction, alternating a steel plate in between.Be aware that some motorcycles have a different first and last friction plate, your parts dealer should know that when you buy the parts.
    After it's stacked reinstall pressure plate with new springs, bottom out the washered bolts and no additional torque is required. Reinstall cover with new gasket, fill with oil and adjust clutch lever so it has enough slack to slide a quarter in between the lever and perch. Good luck!

    Just replaced the friction plates, the clutch spring hub does not seat onto the splines. What did i do wrong?


    G'day.
    You don't stipulate your bikes model or year which makes this a bit harder.
    When you fitted the outer hub(the one the springs sit in)- you've probably miss-aligned it.
    Remove the springs again
    Remove the hub- & re-fit over next set of posts(turn the outer hub so it dosn't go over the same posts as before) & it should slot all the way in.
    If it dosn't-try again

    It looks like the outer hub can fit over the spring posts in any position- but it can't.

    When i am in 3rd or higher gear and accelerate i can feel the clutch slipping. could it be the type of oil like i herd or is the clutch bad


    If it's the original 1996 clutch I'd be surprised if it wasn't slipping. If the clutch & clutch springs are actually still good & working properly, make sure the oil you're using doesn't contain any "friction modifiers". AMSOIL & other companies make synthetic lubricants without friction modifiers. If your oil or an oil additive has friction modifiers, just drain the crankcase and replace the oil with the proper stuff and that may well cure the problem. Replace the filter too.

    I have a poulan woodshark p 3314wsa it starts and runs, but chain doesn't turn


    Does the chainsaw seem to rev up without any resistance, or does it bog down as you push the throttle? If it revs up quickly, then it sounds like the clutch plates may be frozen - usually due to rust. If it boggs down, then the chain and/or clutch housing are frozen or stuck somewhere.

    The chain drive uses a centrifugal dry friction clutch with two weighted plates that are spring loaded. The springs keep the plates disengaged from the clutch housing to allow the engine to spin freely at an idle (or slip when the chain slows down due to the blade binding).

    When you press the throttle, the engine revs up and the higher RPMs create centrifugal force causing the clutch plates to push outward - fighting against the springs, and begin creating friction on the inside of the clutch housing. If rust prevents the clutch plates from moving out to cause the necessary friction, the clutch housing (and drive gear which is permanently affixed to the housing) won't spin and the chain won't move.

    With the engine OFF and cool...first take a thick towel or rag and place it over the chain with the engine switch in the OFF position. Try to move the chain in the normal rotation (top forward, bottom backward) to see if the chain moves freely or if it is stuck in position. If it does move, then take off the chain cover and then get a can of PB Blaster and spray the clutch plates and springs. Give it an hour or so and then take a rag and wipe off the excess and reassemble and try it. The excess PB Blaster will burn off with the heat of the clutch and the rust will no longer be a problem.

    If the chain won't move, then somewhere along the drive the chain or clutch housing are stuck. Look for a bend or kink in the bar where the chain rides.

    Clutch drive plate (has friction pads) x 6 of these alternating with...
    Clutch driven plate (smooth) x 6 of these
    Clutch drive plate (thicker with friction pads) x 1 of these to finish plates
    Wave washer
    Wave washer seat
    Clutch sleeve hub then goes on with springs etc.

    This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

    First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

    See the component section on the base of the washer.

    There are springs and friction pads designed to keep the inner tub from moving too much when agitating and especially spinning.

    One or more of the springs may have come loose or the friction pads may have worn.

    Following is the Whirlpool / Kenmore installation and service manual for top load direct drive washers with a troubleshooting section.

    If the springs and pads are fine, I'd consider looking into the "agitator cam" in the transmission.

    If the cam doesn't lift the agitator gear high enough during the spin cycle, (as we had) you would get a major vibration.

    See the section in the Whirlpool manual on how the transmission works and the agitator cam.

    We had to replace ours and the vibration stopped.

    Only if you need to, look at the following.

    Assuming that you know how to remove the cabinet, agitator (you don't need to remove the tub), pump, motor and transmission the agitator cam and follower use the same whirlpool part number 62580/01. This is a plastic set used to raise the agitate gear on the shaft.

    I had the same problem with gear grinding and this solved it.

    Pull the transmission.

    Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

    Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight oil.

    Remove the transmission cover.

    Pull off the spin pinion.

    Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

    The two plastic agitate cam parts pull right off. Don't lose the washer on top of the cams.

    Replace the cams, washer, spring and clip, pinion, oil (assuming you drained the oil first), cover and clutch parts.

    Line up the transmission so that the release cam on the brake drum will snap onto the clutch spring retaining clip and put all parts back in the washer.

    The basic tools are screwdriver, small socket set with up to a 1/2" socket, vice grips or good pliers (to remove and replace clips)

    Honda FG100 Tiller - Tines wont move


    I took the transmission apart and the gears were fine. The friction pads on the centrifugal clutch don't seem to make full contact with the drum. Does anyone know what the thickness of the friction pads are suppose to be? I used some belt dressing on the pads and got some movement on the tines. With no wear on the gears, I guess I'll be replacing the clutch.
