Question about Rowenta DG-980 Iron

Open Question

Some months ago our switch broke on our Rowenta DG-980 iron, other than that the iron was working fine. now that I have replaces the switch, I can not get the pump to pump or the steam generator to operate. will i have to prime the pump to get water to the steam generator and if so how? Also is there a wiring diagram out there so that I may check to see that I plugged the switch back in correctly?

SOURCE: I have a Rowenta DG-980

Hi, Rowenta recommends that you use clear filtered drinking or bottled water only. I believe them because the system uses brass & aluminum throughout, so salts or acids would cause corrosion. To clean the system totally, after each ironing session before I put it away, I remove the blue reservoir completely, and run the burst of steam several times until the boiler is empty, and red light indicates it is out of water. I shut the power off and unplug. Wait at least an hour or so, access the boiler tank plug on side & if it is cool to the touch, remove it using a coin (quarter), drain and flush the tank several times with the cleaning tube that came with unit or filtered/drinking bottled water several times over the kitchen sink. Finally, drain all the water completely out of the boiler (I leave the plug & cover off to making sure it is completely dry before putting everything back together, ready for the next time). After several use cycles of the above should clear out the debris. My 1st experience with a used DG980 had exactly the same problem. P.S. before ironing the first article, use several bursts of steam away from the ironing board surface to clear out any standing water that was is in the system. Hope this helps :O)

SOURCE: I have a Rowenta DG 980 Expert Steam generator,

Hi

If you are having problems, you must first figure out if it is bad water causing the steam iron to leak the water .But if you have a leak internally then internal leaks are not repairable. They are often caused by a combination of poor water quality and not drying the iron properly before storage. Either of these can cause internal corrosion and lead to leakage. However it is suggested to contact the dealer or the customer support,as it is dangerous to handle electric equipment that is leakin water, which may cause fire hazards.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Thank you for contacting fixya.com

How to bypass power switch wireing

What you will need to do is to take the switch out, and join the wires that are connected to it. If you do this the iron will be on as soon as you plug it in.

Trigger button broke during ironing. What to do?????

The fix is easy, order the trigger that has an actuating tab that is probably broken off. Gently pry up the blue cushion from the front to the back near the cord and you will see the tab lying over the switch. I order my parts from the Rowenta Region Service Center below:

California Electric Service in Concord CA (it is the only Rowenta repair station in California) go to either of the following addresses:
their website is: http://www.californiaelectricservice.com/
or tech service: service@californiaelectricservice.com

Keep us informed as you resolve and solve the problem. It is a fine machine and well worth the repair.

What should I do ?

The old Rowenta DG-980 is a consumer grade machine but with commercial quality function and features. My gal who worked at a dry cleaners many years ago loves the DG-980. Here is the scoop on how to get it going if just cleaning it is all it needs (our used one had the same problem and I fixed it by doing the following:

No steam, button jammed

Hi,

I posted a similar fix under Rowenta DG-980 troubleshooting section. You may be able to pry off the soft rubber cover and access the switch assy and initiate a "surgical procedure".564568
Are you working on another iron similar to the DG-980 posting elsewhere on the FixYa website?

As for the Rowenta manufacturer, you can "Google" the Rowenta website at http://www.google.com typing in Rowenta and looking specifically for the Rowenta home website to get manuals, PDF reader and other good stuff. Please advise if your problem is fixed. I'm in SoCal and been to the UK only once.

No steam coming out and water tank not pumping water into generator to make steam

The Rowenta DG-980 Iron/Steam Generator works great from our experience (it is a consumer grade unit with commercial grade technology) and over 90% of the user reviews I have seen are happy with it, unfortunately it is a discontinued model & the newer replacement is not as good. Service seems to be rather thin, as is the case with most corporate entities; I was on the phone for 30 minutes before I was able to locate service center in Concord, CA (I am in SoCal), and is the only one in the state that does repairs on them, and I am going to check them out...stay tuned.
