The guy with the same problem..Your leaving your enrichner (choke) out thats where the 2000rpm and soot comes from...Original fellow I think you may have an intake leak around your manifold or carb.

2003 883 sportster wont start

What u are describing is typical of a faulty ignition system, but could also be a fuel problem. I check by removing the aircleaner and rotating the throttle. If u see a nice spray of fuel, thats probably not the problem. Check for a spark at the plugs. I can explain how if you need me to. If you cant see a good spark, U have an electrical problem. I had a crank position sensor go bad on me. Dont do what I did (replaced the battery, ignition, and regulator as part of my diagnosis procedure)

Bike won't start

Start by narrowing it down to fire or fuel problem. Pull a sparkplug, ground it to the head, and crank the engine. If there is no spark, then test the plug wires, coil, then ignition module in order down the line until you find where the power stops. If you have spark, then check the petcock to carb for fuel. If there is no fuel from the petcock, then it will be the petcock filter or the petcock is bad. If you do have fuel to the carb, but no to the cylinders, then the carb may need to be cleaned and/or rebuilt. Try these and let me know.

2002 harley fatboy will not start

Let me start by saying I've owned Harleys for twenty years and do all my own work, so don't let the computer expertise on my profile detour you from taking my advice. There are several things that can cause a no start, you'll need to narrow it down to either a fuel problem or a fire problem. Start by checking the spark. Take a plug out, ground it to the head, and crank the engine. If there's is no spark then you need to start tracing it back. Check the coil, ignition module, and voltage regulator connections and wires. Most of the time when you lose fire it's a loose or broken wire/connector, or the coil or ignition module has failed. The regulator can cause a loss of spark, but generally only causes the battery to go dead. Rare, but occasionally the magneto will go out. If you have a good spark, then check for fuel. Turn off the petcock and take the fuel line loose at the carb or injection end, then turn the petcock back on and see if you have fuel getting to the carb/injection system. If not, then you have a faulty petcock, or a plugged screen in the petcock. If you are getting fuel, then, if carbureted, take the carb off, clean it, and check the jets and other internal workings. If this is an injected model, I'm afraid you'll have to take it to a shop that has the diagnostic tools to read and calibrate the injection system. Wow, this is starting to get long winded. Try these and let me know, I have a wealth of knowledge available to me from guys I ride with.

Can't figure it out !!!!

Hi,

There are 2 major requirement for a gasoline engine to fire, fuel and ignition. Since you have spark, then ignition is the least likely problem. No fuel could be verified by removing the air cleaner and pouring a small amount of fuel down the throat, start the bike, if it start and runs (even for just a moment), you have verified the fuel problem.

Problems then could be traced along the fuel flow from the ank all the way to the carburator. In some instances of run out of fuel, the bike will have a hard time starting due to:
1. air bubbles in the fuel lines;
2. valve in carb stuck in close position;
3. flooding of both carb and intakes;
4. (in some cases) vacuum insifficient to open petcock or fuel valve/switch.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a kawasaki kx60 2 stroke it wants to fire but not run what could be the reason why

Carb settings incorrect? Check / replace spark plug - do plug test to check for good spark. Fuel tap broken or not opening properly? Check flow of fuel to carb. Maybe blocked tubing.

79 harley unable to get started.

electronic ignition on a 79'? you got some mods? check for spark at the plug; check for fuel; if you got fuel/air and spark physics mandates that you will have combustion so summpin aint quite thur. stop have a coldy enjoy the way it looks for a night and start with a not so fresh mind tomorrow. oh yeah you said just rebuilt. did you paint the frame while the motor was gettin done? if you left the paint on your motor mounts on the frame BINGO! the frame to motor bolt down spot just happens to be the ground pathway for yer ignition on a 79' shovel. you can show voltage potential all day but if there isnt a ground pathway then it's only potential and not current so scuff the paint off the mount positions and try again. if this is what happened don't freak just loosen everything up lift the motor just a bit and run some emery cloth through the space. let me know if you need more details.
