Question about Magellan Roadmate 5045 GPS 5inch Screen with Lifetime Traffic Alerts RM
Unit was working great until I update the software and maps. Now, if I click on address, it takes about 20-30 seconds to get a reaction. Clickning on a point of interest (e.g. coffee) gets me nowhere (unit reboot after 30 seconds of idling), some streets are not recogniozed by the unit.
Magellan support was actually pretty good helping me with the exact same
issue. The problem (at least in my case) was that the map files were
fragmented. I tried using the Windows defragmenter, but that made
fragmentation even worse! The Magellan support engineer recommended I
download UltraDefrag instead:
Here's what I had to do to completely resolve my issue:
1. Download and install UltraDefrag
2. Connect my GPS to my PC
3. Move the MAP directory from my GPS drive (J:) to my hard disk
4. In UltraDefrag, make sure Action > Skip removable media is not selected
5. Run the optimizer (Ctrl-F7 or Action > Full optimization) after selecting the GPS drive (J: on my computer)
6. Copy the MAP files back to the J: drive AFTER optimization has completed
I double-checked the fragmentation after the files were copied and got 0%. After disconnecting the GPS from the PC, the unit rebooted and doing an address search no longer takes 15 seconds. POI searchs are also much faster than before.

I have had my Magellan 5045-LM for a couple years and love it. The last update also slowed mine down. I have created a case with Magellan support. Please do the same thing. The more push they get the sooner they will fix it. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to create a case.
Software version 4.92 is the one that slowed me down.
With Traffic updates, free map updates, lane choice support, etc... it's hard to beat.

THE CURE for this problem is NEVER BUY Magellan again!!
After paying over £800 for an early Roadmate 700 (which failed and was replaced by a failed/recon version) then to have problems with software.. now having waited a year to get map update and version 6 firmware I find it doesn't give me Magellan Tools which was promised by Magellan Support.
After several mail queries and important qustions remaining unanswered I am buying a Tomtom Go 720T which will do all the updates automatically via a cradle linked to my PV/Internet.
NEVER EVER AGAIN a damned Magellan - great when it works but it's easier to get blood from a stone than good support from Magellan.

i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it and they start to have alot of problems.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.

my map on my gps road mate 300 is ereased by my son and now when i try to find or to travel it says no map . Is there any means to reinstal the map? thank you
