SOURCE: Computer will not shut down
You can try the Ctl-Alt Del keys to see if you can get the task manager to come up. If you can then try to shut down using that. If not then the only choice you really have is to manually power down and restart. Chances are pretty good Windows will clean up after itself and should boot backup. During the process if you receive any error messages or warnings document them. Windows may also prompt you for a hard drive scan, let it. Start by cleaning the fan and heat sink. Dirt or dust build up can cause them not to work as efficiently as they should. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might consider replacing the fan and heat sink or purchasing a cooling pad.

Hmm, could be an overheating problem.
Do you have any temperature monitoring software on your laptop you could use to check the cpu temperature while watching streaming video?
If not try downloading and installing this.

Try disabling the startup items or edit it. Go to Start -> Run. type msconfig. Choose Diagnostic Startup. Reboot.

if the other ideas dont work then its a bad motherboard this is common in compaq and hp laptops the chip sets overheats and goes bad HP knows here is issues with the boards but has done nothing to fix this as yet.I belive the is a class action law suit dealing with HP laptops with these issues
I run a computer shop here and deal with replacing mother board in laptops more then any other repair. you can pick up a board on ebay.I buy lots of laptop board on there just make sure you you get a seller with good feedback.i have yet to see a laptop the cycles on,off,on to be any other problem.
