I have a Western Digital external hard drive (MyPassport Elite) and it has stopped recognising it. I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 after my last one with vista broke. It worked fine for the...

Make sure you're using the cable supplied. I have a Passport Drive that came with a 6" cable which I found to be too short. When I used a longer cable (and of an unknown quality) I started having intermittent read / write faults. I had the drive replaced by the store the next day. I started having the exact same issue with the new drive as well. I was told by the store manager when I tried to return the second drive that I should use the supplied cable, and when I did - it worked flawlessly.

Make sure your power supply (if yours included one) is connected too. Hopefully, the will solve your problem - good luck!

How to save data from hard drive off my apple power book g4

You can drag and drop your files on to an external hard drive or USB flash drive, burn the files to CD/DVD using an application called toast - you will need a CD/DVD writer to do that. If you can find one, you can save your files to a zip disk.

Reinsalled windows xp lost all my drivers i have a nother computer with vista how can i use my zip drive tocpy to my xp dell

Hello, first thing you should do is (assuming you have USB zip drive) plugin you zip drive in make sure it works.

from the other computer that is working with internet access, Visit http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs

select drivers, and then specify your model of dell computer and download NIC (ethernet card/network card) drivers save them to the ZIP disk and carry that over to XP PC and copy drivers from zip disk to the desktop. double click and run the file you downloaded and note down where it is extracted,
in dell its usually "C:\dell\Drivers\Rxxxxxx" folder.
next right click on my computer, go to properties->hardware-> then device manager, locate the network card with Yellow exclmation mark. Once located, right click it and select "update drivers" from next screen select the option "No, not this time" then on next screen check "install from a list or specific location (advanced)" option and click next.
then simply browse to the location where you saved the drivers (by default C:\dell\Drivers\Rxxxxxx, note xxxx are numbers related to the drivers) and select that folder and click next. That shold take care of it...

let me know if you have any other questions.

regards
Amar Sondhi

Unable to see data on Zip Disks

You are saying that you used zip drive in 1998. i want to tell you that in 1998 the processors were of old versions.therefore, you need to install windows 95,only then you will be able to retrieve your data.
As the only reason to be found is that you used win 95 in 1998,now you are using win xp,the files you stored on your drive were only supported by win 95,hence you need to install win 95.
THANK YOU. hope you get a well experience on www.fixya.com

Sandisk Cruzer no longer prompting for password

I think the problem is corrosion on the contacts. Shut the computer off. Gently insert and remove the USB drive several times to try and clean the contacts. Turn the computer ON and when Windows has set up properly, insert the USB drive and see if you can read it. Many of the new drives and reader ports do not use gold contacts (too expensive) but use copper or aluminium which corrode easier an easiest.

MS Excel 2007 won't save my worksheet

Hi,

I find this a little perplexing too. Without sounding patronising are you sure you are saving it to the same location that you are attempting to open it from?

Something to try.. Excel keeps a record of the last 4 things you were working on in the file menu. Try clicking 'File' then the 2 little down arrows (if they are there) and it should bring up a list of previous documents. Try the last one or 2 and see if either of these are a more up to date version than the one you last worked on. If so in future always choose 'File' - 'Save as' when saving a document and make sure you choose a document path you are sure of.

Really hope this helps.

Regards,

Andy
