I have been saving files on a zip drive disk for several days now. It's worked flawlessly. Now, today, I try to access the disk, and it's unreadable. The files I have on the disk represent several hours of work, so I'm about to have a nervous breakdown! Help!!!

How do I fix a failing hard drive?

First and foremost backup your data if possible. Then if you have bad sectors on the hard drive you might try and run hdd regen. it is free and can get it from HIRAN'S BOOT CD 15.2. IT HAS SAVED MY TAIL MANY TIMES OVER.

Trying to uninstall nero 7 essentials in my laptop, shellmaneger is missing

http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero7-tools-utilities.html download the tool and follow these directions
  1. Download the file "infotool.zip", save this file to your desktop.
  2. Extract the zipped file on your hard drive using WinZip or WinRAR.
  3. Double-click on the EXE file to start the Nero InfoTool.
  4. The window "Nero InfoTool - Retrieving Information" will open. Please wait until the progress bar has moved completely to the right. The window "Nero InfoTool" will open.
  5. Click the "Save" button (the disk icon at the top). The window "Nero InfoTool - Save/Print" will open.
  6. Please activate all the check boxes (Drive, Disk, Configuration, Software, Hardware, etc.).
  7. Click the "Save" button. The window "Save as" will open.
  8. Name the file and select the "TXT" format as the file type in the dropdown menu.
  9. Select in the "Save in"-dropdown menu the "Desktop" entry.
  10. Click the "Save" button. The Nero InfoTool will be saved on the desktop in the "TXT" format.

My Dell desktop computer will not boot and it is too old to spend money on repairs. However, I would like to be able to get the files off my hard drive. If I buy a kit and turn the internal hard drive...

Nope. you cannot access your files. even if you use a external hard dive to access the files.

i suggest you install windows 7 in your computer but do not reformat the hard disk . in that way your files will still be saved in your harddrive.
Once you have access to your files i suggest you save them in a flash drive or external hard drive if you have one. then reformat your computer and install a windows xp.

here is a tutorial on how to install windows 7 without reformatting your harddrive.

Goodluck. If you have any success using my solution please give me updates.. Thanks

My maxtor external hard drive has done a scheguled Plan b backup but files that I removed from my master hard drive to free up space because I had them saved on my external hard drive are now missing from...

When a file is delete, it's still there on the drive, just as before; all that happens is that the file table marks it as free space and changes its name so it's no longer visible. There are a number of "undelete" utilities available, including several good ones, like asoftech data recovery that helped me before:

Iomega zip drive Z100ATAPI returns error message: "Insert Disk into drive H:" even though there is a disk in it. It is recognized by the system and Device Manager in Windwos XP says the drive is...

Just because the device manager says the drive is working fine doesn't mean it is. If it won't recognize the ZIP disk, either the disk itself is bad or the zip drive is bad. I would try another zip disk and see if it will read a known good zip disk.

Windows xp desktop boot problem

Hi utility,

Try this, it may work for you. What I’m going to suggest is entering the DOS environment and making necessary changes to get your pc up and running.

- Reboot> At reboot watch for DOS screen option “enter setup” via a F button option. You have to watch closely because on some pc’s this option goes by quick, so be ready to act. Once in the DOS environment navigate to “boot options” choose safe mode . Save changes and exit. When your os is up go immediately to system restore: Click Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. Choose a date before your issue arose.>click next/continue and wait for system to restore. Reboot, and enter DOS environment once more and go to boot options and choose “Normal boot”>save changes and exit and you should be done. I hope this helped or at least gave you some ideas for further investigation.

Pop up on computer says I have low disk space on hp-recovery(d) but I have nothing on that drive to get rid of

well..that's a drive that HP sets aside, as part of your c drive for recovery. you can back that up online, or elsewhere, and then wipe that part clean..if you like.. but be careful NOT to wipe the other side of the disk..

another approach, is to re partion the drive, but that's not something that I advise for just anyone.
