It is probably the transformer you are hearing. It sees mains current at all times. Even when off. It may or may not be an indication of a filter capacitor in the early stages of failure but it is more likely to be simply a loose lamination in the transformer core.

So it could be normal that I hear that when off. If it is somthing loose can u tell me wat to replace ive never noticed it b4... If you think it ciuld be normal is it bad to unplug when done using

  • John McPherson Feb 20, 2012

To a certain extent it can be considered a normal thing if the radio itself is working fine. If it is a fairly loud hum, if it were my own I would just check out the power supply components just to be sure they are okay, and then unplug it when when it is not in use.

Unplugging it is an extra bit of insurance for other reasons. I do that with a number of things I have that do not fully power down when off. Mainly it reduces the potential of a fire even though the items are UL listed.

Alright ya It works great and liike I said I didnt noticed it cuz its not very loud **** it gets ya nervous I wikl have to look over the power suppy part. Can I ajust the echo in that radio

  • ryandysinger Feb 20, 2012

I guess it hums when transmiitting to

  • John McPherson Feb 21, 2012

Echo can be altered only slightly and not easily. I do not have a schematic of the Echo board, just a parts layout so I could only explain it at theory level, but if you are looking to add depth, you could insert a reverb tank with preamp in line with the input to the echo board.

The power supplys getting weak you should find me one and send me

Samsung s3 phone wont turn on only red light stays on and a buzzing noise sounds and wont turn on need help

Shut it down by holding the power button until the screen goes black, don't tap the power off button, wait for the black screen. Then let your phone charge for a few hours (maybe over night) with power off and see if that helps.

Galaxy 979 SSB Modulation Problem Voice Cuts Out.

It sounds like you had a cold solder joint. Leaving it in the sun probably temporarily corrected it. I would take it to a tech to have all the solder joints corrected, unless you are handy with a soldering iron. The problem will most likely come back.

All you have to do is pull the top cover off, which will show the bottom, or trace side of the board. Using a soldering iron, make sure any solder joint that doesn't fully look soldered and make sure the solder is fully covering the joint. If need you may have to add solder.

As for the frequency counter going nutty when you modulate, Don't worry about it. There is nothing wrong. Because when you modulate you are modulating the carrier signal you are changing the signal so the counter will interpret that as a different freq because it cannot differentiate. Freq counters are for use with carrier only. As long as the carrier shows correct, it is right.

Galaxy DX 959. SSB doesn't seem to work. The power meter needle moves in AM but not in SSB. I tried adjusting the bias between test points 7 & 9 to 50 mA via VR12, but can only get it down to 90...

on ssyou are some what familiar with working on radio's. just make sure before you pull your hair out aligning the radio that you made sure it definitely is not tx on ssb. b the.Mic gain will increase the modulation. it could just be a meter issue. confirm this by having some one on another radio on ssb the same channel listen for you. if he cannot hear you then the ssb is blown out.sounds likelike

Symptom:Buzzing or motorboating sound in either the transmit or receive.
Problem: TR602 is oscillating
Cure: Replace C602 with a .01uF cap {Cap is located in the power supply board}.
RG 66,99,DX2517 Replace Q54 2SB754 60watt 7A with a higher power 2SB817 100 Watt 12A. Derating of this component will cool operation, provide better voltage stability, decrease wobble, allow voltage increase to 14.5 volts comfortably. (replace 10 volt caps in this section of the radio to a minimum of 16 volts before increasing supply voltage to this level)and provide faster swing rise time, Replace Q37 2SA473 to a 2SA1012-0 or ECG153 this will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation and it will also run a lot cooler.
