SOURCE: reset Ink levels for canon mx310

I've heard that with canon there is a way around the ink-level chip monitoring on the cartridge by doing the following:

  1. Power off printer
  2. Hold RESUME button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once.
  3. Hold POWER and release RESUME
  4. Press RESUME twice
  5. Release POWER button
  6. When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange.
  7. Press POWER to set data

You can find the solution here:

You must hold the stop/resume button for 2 or 3 seconds. The printers detects that it's a filled cartridge and alert you about it... That's all.

You can try their cartridges come with the chip and are more reasonably priced than the Canon originals. I've seen chip resetters in the shops but not yey one for this printer.

SOURCE: I need a tool to reset my canon pixma iP4600 ink cartridges

I found the only tool I have seen at this url. It is a German company, but I was able to order the resetter from them with no problems. It has worked very well, but was a little expensive. part of the problem was that the US dollar and Euro were not at a favorable exchange rate when I ordered. I didn't get any answers to my emails to them, but when I used there site to order, it took about a week to get the device. It is very simple to use.

Could an aftermarket ink cause a malfunction in a MG5220

No. Aftermarket ink should cause no actual problems with your printer. The printer may not sense that the ink cartridge is full, but that's a minor thing to put up with considering the ink savings. Also, aftermarket ink DOES NOT void factory warrenties.

Yes, you will get that message. You may be able to buy a "chip resetter" for your carts. I've had good experience with this supplier of resetters, refillable carts and refill ink:

The is covered completely in the Owners Manual. I suggest you download the manual from the Canon support website to have as a reference in the future.

1. Open the front paper tray door.

2. Lift the entire top of the printer until it is as high as it will go and locks the brace in place. The ink cartridge carriage will move to the center of the printer. The cartridge needing changing will have a light blinking to indicate it.

3. Push in the back tab on the cartridge and lift it out.

4. Remove the new cartridge (be sure it\'s the right color) from the packaging, remove the plastic clip that protects the ink feed aperature.

5. Push the cartridge into the slit in the carriage and press down on the end closest to you to lock the tab in place.

6. Lift up on the printer top and push the bottom of the brace away from you to unlock it and then lower the lid.

7. the printer will then go through several cycles to realign the cartridges and verify the new one is feeding properly.

8. If more than one cartridge goes dry at the same time, repeat steps 3-5 for all cartridges before lowering the lid.

Good luck!

Canon mg5220 printer won't print black

Try this: take a small, sharp knife and make sure the air slit on the top of the cartridge goes all the way through the plastic.
You know that little tab you have pull off the top of the cartridge before inserting in the print head? There is a tiny slit under the tab to let air in, which is necessary to let the ink flow out. The slit is made very small so ink won't leak inadvertently out the top. Sometimes the slit doesn't go all the way through the plastic. When that happens, the ink can't flow.
I blew through that slit on a defective cartridge and no ink came out. I used a pen knife to open the slit (it doesn't take much) and then blew again. This time ink spewed out the bottom. My print test showed the black ink coming through. It was a bit spotty so I cleaned the print head and now the black ink comes out just like its supposed to.

How do I replace my Ink cartridge in my Canon MG5220 Printer?

  • Remove the orange tape on the new cartridges completely.
  • Remove the protective film completely too.
  • Twist the orange protective cap horizontally to remove it and be careful not to block the L-shape air hole.
  • Open the cartridge compartment.
  • Tilt the cartridge and insert it under the label and against its matching color.
  • Push the mark on the ink tank firmly until it clicks in place.
  • Use the same procedure for the other cartridges.
Hope it helps.Thanks!

The color ink cartridge that is " blinking " is

Don't buy Canon as they absolutely ROB you for the ink!! They are worse than ****** dealers! At least HP allows you to use non (rip-off) OEM cartridges without all the hassle! My printer will be thrown out after the ink runs out as I will not be ripped-off by Canon again!
