Question about Dishwashers
This is a KitcheAid Model KUDS01IJ. The control panel does light. I can select the different cleaning modes. However, when the START button is pushed, the cycle status indicator only lights next to CLEAN and nothing happens. I can puch the Cancel/Drain button and a 2 minute cycle will run (it isn't doing anything now because there is no water in the tub. My wife said the first time she did this, it actually drained the tub (ie pump got signal and worked). Now it just won't start a cycle regardless of the cleaning mode selected. I assume it is one of the electronic components, but would like to get an idea of which one(s) by name that I should consider replacing

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.
Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.
The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.
It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

This may help in your situation. The following link explains how you may be able to clear the blinking clean light problem:
Now...keep in mind all dish washers are not alike and have different panel options. If you do not have the same set up as I have referenced, the tech sheet for your dishwasher will explain. The tech sheet is located behind the lower toe panel under the door and lists the proper sequence of buttons to push for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
NOTE: Sometimes the tech sheet is located behind the inner door panel. You will need to remove the screws securing the inner panel to access it if this is the case. Make sure you turn off the main power breaker before doing so.
Sometimes this can be a momentary glitch in operation. However, if the problem keeps reoccuring the number of flashes is an indication of which circuit is causing your problem. Again, refer to your tech sheet to determine this.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you solve your problem.

It is linked to three possible causes which need to be looked at one by one
1. There is a block in the drain somewhere especially if you are using insinkerator / garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. Ensure drain is clear.
2. the door switch is faulty - but this is unlikely if the cancel/ drain works for 2 minutes.
3. the water heater is not working - you will need to check the heater resistance (see parts diagram) - item 1 page 5.
4. the float switch is faulty telling the dishwasher it is flooded which then should atleast run the pump - but you mentioned it does nothing. (see item 15 on page 6)
My bet is on 1 at the moment. Please rate the solution if 1 works otherwise post a comment.
