This is what the canon people say to do for error 99

Read this!!!

The guy at tech support listened and then told me that the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens’ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them.

Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.

I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked good luck have a nice day!!! :) :) :)

Overexposed shots when between 10-14mm. I understand from another user that this is common near 10mm. Will there still be a problem if shot taken at night? Used with Canon Rebel T1i

I owned this lens and didn't have that problem, but I always ALWAYS used the lens hood, and 99% of the time had a slim 77mm circular polarizer on there as well since my use for it was mainly landscapes and mainly during daylight hours. Does your camera have lens profiles for automatically correcting known lens issues? As a Band-Aid solution you could dial your exposure compensation down to -1.00 or so when shooting 10-14mm. It's a pain, but better than blown highlights...

You might also try different metering modes. I tend to use partial metering and choose a spot with "average" light in my shot, then lock the exposure, autofocus, then shoot. Sometimes evaluative metering might read too many darks in such a wide framing and overcompensate - just a theory.

I am using a canon 350d camera. when I use my efs 18-55mm lense there is an Error 99. Is there a problem with my camera or lense and how can I correct it myself or i need to get professional help. Thank...

'Error 99' indicates some problem with the AF contacts. This is a common error in Canon lenses. It could indicate a very simple problem like dirty contacts or a much serious one like the breakage of USM cable.
As a first step, you can try cleaning the lens and body contacts (the metal contacts between the lens and body) using a pencil eraser. Be careful to hold the body facing down so that no dust falls inside. After cleaning both the lens and the body contacts, re-attach the lens and try shooting. If the AF does not work still, you need to take the lens to an authorized service center.

Using a 70-300mm sigma lense on a canon 350d i error 99 flashes

Error 99 usually refers to a shutter error with the camera. It is most likely not your lens, but you can try it on another body just to be certain. Try PhotoTech Repair Service, in NYC. They are an authorized service facility for Canon cameras. Also if you join they're facebook discount, they will give you 10% off the repair.
Here is the link to the facebook page, it has everything you need to send in your camera.

Canon Digital Rebel XT auto focus

Auto Focus does not determine exposure. Only sharpness. "Wrong" exposure could be due to the metering mode being set in Spot Metering. Set it back to Evaluative Metering which may improve the overall even exposure of your shots. Test your shots in full auto or P mode. M (Manual) mode will require you to check the exposure setting manually (you can see the indicator in the viewfinder when you half-press the trigger)
