Question about IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Notebook
My laptop wont start and are just showing fan error at the top of the screen and then it shuts down, what is this and can it bee fixed?
The CPU fan is faulty and the CPU goes into thermal shutdown.
Replace the faulty fan to fix the problem.

SOURCE: Fan Error
You may have a faulty fan, check to fan, it should spin freely, if not the fan needs to be replaced. The fan and heatsink assenble may also be clogged with dust, remove the dust and vacuum to clean.

SOURCE: t30 fan error
Hi, Well, the fan is either unplugged from it's socket, froze up, or completely clogged with dust, etc and is giving the bios reason to shut down. Also tho, tell me, does the time and date keep needing to be reset? Could be a cmos battery. Some of the older thinkpads were like that, although my T30 has never shown this problem. Good luck

SOURCE: fan error problem
Sounds like the mother board thinks the processor fan isn't running at all, or not fast enough. Can you verify that the fan is running, by sound and the movement of air through the vents? If no fan/air movement then you should address that fan problem that your thinkpad has developed.
In case it's the fan and you decide to crack it open yourself? Let us know?
