I have a quickbooks pro 2005 license for 3 computers, It seems I can only use it on two. It is set up on a network. I always get an error message when logging into one or another computer that the computer running, is running a different version, and I need to update, When I use the update feature it dosent seem to help, or if it does update, I lose the ability to work on one of the other computers. It seems one of the computers is always out of date. Why?

This can be a frustrating situation, and there may be more than one cause. Network permissions, user permissions, version and release of the QuickBooks program....all of these can play into this.
One suggestion would be to download the manual update from the QuickBooks support website. Save the file to a disk or a jump/flash drive, then run the update on all of the systems. You may have to open the task manager ( ctrl + alt+delete) go to the processes tab and end process on anything that begins QB.....
If they are all on the same release ( check by having the program open and do ctrl+1 on the keyboard, in the info screen it should have the version and an r number) the issues may lie with permissions, or even a stuck image file. Make sure the c: drive on the server, and the QuickNooks folders are fully shared, and that anypne logged into windows is a power user or higher.

Your only solution is to call Quickbooks help. Give them your license number and they will be able to walk you through how to re-activate your license.
Note: If you are attempting to install quickbooks on a second computer and you purchased a one user license, that will be the reason. They will make you pay for another license. You can only load Quickbooks single user license on one computer.
Sounds like you have the QuickBooks Database manager running or the Quick Connect feature still installed and/or turned on. Check and see if this is the problem by going to start and then programs and see if it says QuickBooks anywhere. If it does, slide over to see which of the two listed above are on. Then go to your control panel and uninstall the program. Double check to make sure the "quickbooks" catagorey disappears from your programs and then install the new version you wish to keep.
Choose File > Close Company to close the company file.
On all other computers that will use the company file, stop hosting multi-user access :
Press and hold Ctrl while you open the QuickBooks program and continue pressing Ctrl until QuickBooks opens completely. This opens QuickBooks without opening a company file.
Choose File > Utilities >Stop Hosting Multi-User Access. If that option doesn't appear, the computer is not hosting and no further action is necessary.
Repeat steps 4.a and 4.b for each computer other than the host computer.
Configure the QuickBooks server for multi-user access:
Click the Windows Start button and choose All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
Click the Scan Folders tab.
Click the Add Folder button, select the folder that contains your QuickBooks company file, and click OK. Repeat this step if necessary to add additional company file folders.
Click the Scan button to begin scanning. After the scan is finished, the company files in the scanned folders are configured for multi-user access.
Open the company file in QuickBooks. If you receive the same error message, refer to Settings required for firewalls to make sure your firewall is properly configured to allow QuickBooks access to your company file.
Open the company file in QuickBooks. If you receive the same error message, open a different company file or a sample company file located in one of the folders you scanned with the Database Server Manager.
If no company file will open, reboot the host computer and try again.
If you have two QUICKBOOKS pro LICENSES you can access the same file from two computers. You will not be able to open the same account of each file ex same client. Verify that you are under multiuser under "file". www.cpahispano.com
Here is how to load and activate Quickbooks 2005 on Vista...
First of all, if you already have an activated copy of QuickBooks 2005 on another computer open it and go to "help" "my license information" and print this out so you have the details needed for activating your reinstalled copy (you don't need a fresh activation key and you may have trouble getting one as QuickBooks 2005 is no longer supported by Intuit).
On your new Vista computer, insert the QuickBooks CD but cancel any program install windows that pop up. Go to my computer and find setup.exe on the CD, right click and select the option to "run as administrator"
Once installed, navigate to the QuickBooks folder on your hard drive (typically C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks) right click on QB32.exe and on the compatibility tab select both Disable visual themes" and "run as adminstrator". Now open this file to run QuickBooks and select "file" "Update QuickBooks" to download and install all updates. QuickBooks will not work properly until you have downloaded the updates, closed and reopened the program.
I had problems with activation but I got around this by unplugging my network cable so that I had no internet connection. If you run QuickBooks without an internet connection, when the screen pops up asking you to "activate" click next and the screen to enter your license details will appear. enter your details (printed out from your previous installation) and you are done. You can restore the internet connection and use QuickBooks 2005 normally.
