To isolate the problem, you need a friend with another computer since right now, we don't really know if the video section (or card) of the PC is at fault or the monitor.
You need to swap displays with someone so you can be certain what is actually not working.
The monitor is obviously capable of scanning inputs for a signal and not finding one.

juanmgerman0, Connect SDM-X82 to known-good pc that has all sleep mode, power-save mode disabled. (turned-off) If unit still goes to black screen mode, then look at the "date of Manufacture" on rear of unit and let me know if you see "2002 -2004" as the year produced. Retrevo lists unit as "time to retire". Power supply may be going into shut-down mode having detected a problem with itself or the CCFL inverter circuit. 12fixlouie
Press once the Input button. The menu appears. Press the Input button again and hold it. Now this is reduced to the problem of blocking the Input button (holding it with something). (Not very technical but then again neither is the restart when the computer blocks :D)
Is that a port for an additional monitor or is it simply an alternative method of connecting the monitor to the PC. My monitor has a vga input along with a dvi input and a hdmi input. These are all inputs not outputs.. Unless the port is specifically labeled as an additional monitor output, the chances are its an input..
You may have to use proprietry software to make any additional outputs available.. if the monitor is a Samsung, go to the samsung website and search for the monitor model. or read the manual..
This is a problem I have seen with a few LG monitors.
Your Inverter circuit is fine (that powers the lights to your screen so you can see the image on the LCD panel) but the monitor does not like having a video signal attached to it.
Bad capacitors on the power board can upset the current going to the controller board. This board included the video input circuit and the power supply needs to be stable for this to operate.
The controller IC that translates the video signal into what the LCD panel controller can understand is failing. Normally this fault occurs in the horizontal and vertical input of the IC. The fact you can see the other message on screen is due to it going through it's own internal and seperate section of the IC. In this case the only repair option is to replace the internal video board. Sony will not supply the parts directly to the public, but if you are really nice, they "may" tell you where to get one externally to Sony.
Your screen refresh rate may be too high for the monitor or one of the parts might be incompatible with windows try lowering your screen refresh rate. Or checking windows for a compatible driver for the chip or monitor.
