This is commonly caused by a water inlet valve with a bad solenoid. The valve can easily be replaced by following these steps:
Your washer may have the Maytag name, but it is manufactured by Whirlpool and has Whirlpool parts. The water inlet valve can be found at appliancepartspros.com for about $28. Just type in your model number and locate item 38 under the "Controls and Rear Panel Parts" heading. You may also try searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, or repairclinic.com to see if the part is carried for less.
If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Your console has a retaining clip under the front corner on each side. You simply insert a putty knife under the console at the corner and push straight back, while pushing the console back with your other hand. The clip will release and the console will pop up. You can use the following link for reference (step 2 b.):
Your washer has the Maytag name, but is manufactured by Whirlpool and has Whirlpool parts, so these steps are for your washer. The link I provided explains how to access and remove the drive motor. If you are having problems with agitation and spin, you may have bad motor coupling. The next explains how to replace one:
The steps are almost identical and the part number (if needed) is included.
You can view an excellent exploded view diagram of your washer at appliancepartspros.com. Section 4 shoes the console and retaining clips (item 3) that I'm talking about.
If your washer fills, then stops, or agitates then stops just before the rinse cycle, this problem is attributed to a lid switch malfunction.
I'm adding all these remarks, because you never stated what symptoms you were experiencing. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

There is an exit hose behind your washer, it has to be maintained a particular height (approx 30inches from ground) before it goes into the standpipe in the wall. The gap in the pipe should not be a tight fit. Another thing that could have occurred is that one of the pipes underneath the washer has come loose; you just have to check these things out. But plug off the mains socket first!
