SOURCE: I want to know how

Besides drying clothes, dryers also remove lint. This fine, fuzzy material can cause trouble because it blocks dryer lint traps, clogs vents, and fills blowers. Lint can also gather around and in the tracks of the drum rollers, or in and under the pulleys and the drive belt. The result is poor clothes drying or -- sometimes -- no drying. To avoid lint problems, clean out the dryer's lint trap system every time you use the dryer.
To clean the lint screen, remove it from the unit. The screen may be located near or under the door sill, or in the top of the dryer near the control panel. It can usually be removed by pulling it up and out of its housing. Remove the accumulated lint to clear the screen; then replace the screen.
The exhaust vent also collects lint. Vent maintenance involves cleaning the lint from a screen in the dryer's vent exhaust collar and/or at the end of the exhaust vent where it sticks out through a basement window or through an exterior wall. To clean the screen, remove the clamp that holds the vent to the collar, or back out the screws that hold the vent to the collar, or pull the vent straight off an extended collar. Clean the screen thoroughly and replace it in the vent assembly.
To clean the vent itself, use a vent-cleaning brush (available at hardware stores) to pull out any lint deposits. Also check the vent run to make sure that the vent piping or tubing isn't loose at the joints, or -- in the case of flexible plastic venting -- isn't sagging between hanging brackets. Breaks or sags cause undue strain on the dryer's blower system, and can cause drying problems. If the vent pipe or tubing has become clogged with lint, remove the lint by pushing a garden hose or a drain-and-trap auger through the vent to a convenient joint. Disassemble the joint to remove the debris. With this procedure, it isn't necessary to disassemble the entire vent to find the blockage. You can head off problems before they become too serious by providing routine maintenance for your dryer's door gasket, thermostat, timer, and other frequently used parts. Let's discuss how to service these important components in the next section.

You can buy felt tape from a variety of sources. Here's one:http://www.findtape.com/shop/product.aspx?id=412&bc=F&setscreen=1&width=1436&height=0

I'm sure Amazon sells it as well as most Lowes and Home depot type warehouse centers.

SOURCE: GE Profile Dryer: Felt came off

On the DPSR610EGWT if you open the dryer door and look at the top of that opening There are two small phillips screws that hold down the top of the dryer. Unscrew those, lift the top and then slide it to the left to remove the top. Next, near the top of the seams between the front and side panels is a screw. Unscrew the small screw and the front will lift off. Be careful because the drum is supported by the front and there are also wires connected on the left. Hope this helps!

I had this same problem 3 weeks ago, and here is what I found.
The dryer was so clogged with lint it could not dry the clothes. I had to take the whole machine apart and clean all the lint out. I found the felt around the drum was worn out, and that was allowing the lint to go everywhere it shouldn't. With the felt replaced and the lint gone, it worked well.
Be blessed.

Hi renfrorichte...
I would use fibreglass window screen cut to the size needed.
Bonded with a good glue such as 3M's Weather Proof Adhesive or Contact cement.

Extremely screeching noise when running?

Screeching is the metal-on-metal contact of the drum touching the rear of the unit while
turning - there's a (usually) felt cover gasket over the circular depression at the back of the dryer.
When this wears through (after a number of years/loads), you get the screeching of
metal-to-metal contact.
Problem: friction can heat up the metal so much that the remaining felt gasket material (and/or
accumulated lint or clothing) catches fire.
Fix: replace felt drum gasket.
The Maytag Atlantis MDE6400AY electric dryer has a DuraCushion(tm) dryer drum, so I'm
suspecting the "DuraCushion" has worn out at least at one point in its 360-degree arc.

The felt seal is glued onto the rear of the drum . If it is torn then it will need to be replaced . If it just came loose it may be re glued.

On my Bosch Nexxt 500 Series Electric Dryer keeps shutting off and gives the E-01 error we have check the exhaust air duct on back of the dryer and we have vacuumed the inside bearing shield what else...

Motor won't work
Lint screen hi-limit (thermal cutout) tripped.
Clean lint screen and clean lint and other debris from front shield, then replace hi-limit. Also check exhaust duct length & # of elbows.
Wire harness failed.
Run resistance or continuity checks to track down broken wire or connector. Replace failed wire harness.
Display shows "E:01" during drying.
Lint filter, air duct or air damper is blocked.
Air leaking past felt drum seal.
Air duct is too long, too small or has too many bends. Inadequate ventilation around dryer (i.e. in a closet).
Clean out filter, air duct and air damper.
Replace felt drum seal. If seal doesn't fit snugly onto drum, wet felt and dry it by running a timed dry cycle for 20 minutes (felt will shrink and fit drum snugly).
Shorten, enlarge, reroute and reduce # of bends in air duct. Move dryer to an area

Felt / material that drum rides on front and back? had that material melt and start fire in vent, do these need to be replaced after so many years . material was leaning againts heating element and over...

The felt material you talk about is probably the front felt seal. It goes between the front of the machine and the drum. Normally these seals last for quite a few years, but they do go bad after a while. This can be caused by normal wear, and also can be caused by wear in the drum rollers.
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS

If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum, front felt seal and belt. You can stop there, but I would recommend that you follow thru and do the following:
Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil.
Reassemble the dryer, plug back in.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

We purchased part 280114 (rear drum seal) and we

Hi, If this a whirlpool make, The felt side gets the glue. The edge that is sown tight on the edge gets glued to the tub. Make sure that you do not push the seal to far unto the drum so the flap on the seal hangs against the edge of the drum.
I tried looking up your part # and it doesn't come up.5eff87c.jpg
If you look at the back side of this seal you will notice a threading closer to one side and not the other. The thread (felt side) closest to the edge is the one that gets glued to the drum.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Dryer

That is an accurate description
the drum of all dryers is suspended from a combination of
felt pads at the drum ends
nylon glides under the drum
rubber tired thrust rollers.
the rubber tires wear, and the drum shifts, this pinches and wears the felts, then there is enough space to pinch the clothes in the gap
It is a simple enough fix, and well worthwhile, felts glides and rollers are cheap in comparison to new dryers.
Generically all dryers are pretty much the same, so when you go to the parts store, the felts rollers and glides may be labelled whirlpool or kenmore
they will fit exactly, there are very few that fit very many models.

To do the job
  • UNPLUG DRYER
  • If a top mounted lint screen, remove lint screen and 2 screws under lint screen from top of case
  • with a putty knife or other blunt blade release spring clips at front corners of lid, retaining lid to front panel
  • tilt lid up
  • remove 1screw each side 1/3 way down front
  • disconnect door switch wires
  • remove front panel and door
  • pull tensioner to end of its travel against tensioner spring, and unhook belt
(Note:: position of belt around tensinoer and motor pulleys for reinstall)
  • pull drum out forwards
  • motor, pulleys, support rollers, felts, and glides can now be inspected
good roller
3d57115.jpg bad roller
7133e59.jpg rollers are in pairs, if one is worn replace both

Inspect felts and nylon glides where fitted, any wear - replace

to replace felts
requirements 2 or more pairs locking pliers(visegrips) hitemp silicone adhesive
  • pull old felt off
  • scrape off old adhesive
  • spread gllue on drum edge
  • secure felt on drum with visegrip
  • pull felt into place, clip with visegrip, pull again clip with visegrips, work around until felt is attached to drum and clipped in place
  • allow glue to set
nylon glides, if fitted replace easily, a central screw, or glue

reassemble in reverse order
