Question about GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX27PRBWW

1 Answer

Leaky Refrigerator My GE 'Profile' refrigerator, side by side, is +8 years old. When I have the icemaker in the freezer section (upper left side) on, there is a leak on the right rear corner onto the floor. If I turn off the icemaker by lifting the 'stop' arm, the leak stops. It looks like there is a leak somewhere where a solenoid would be located that allows water from the feed line into the refrigerator. I've taken off the cardboard plate that is on the back of the refrigerator. Accessibiity to where the water line comes in is almost non-existent ( a lousy service design). I've simply kept the ice maker off for a month now to stop the leak on the floor. Not having an automatic icemaker is not too convenient in a warm climate like South Florida. I'm a retired electrical engineer, so I'm not without some skills! The manual(s) don't show any electrical nor mechanical schematics for this kind of problem. What do you suggest? thx, Elliot Elliot242@aol.com

Remove the whole back cover at the bottom and check all the nylon lines. they get britle and crack from the heat that the compresor and condesor make. chack that and get back to me. I may be able to send a parts break down / explosion if I can get the model number.

Cheers,
Todd

It sounds like the damper assembly might have failed or be stuck open. The damper is mounted in the left side upper rear corner of the refrigerator section. The damper controls the amount of cold air that comes into the refrigerator section from the freezer.

If you want to repair the refrigerator yourself you should disconnect the power to the refrigerator and remove the 2 screws holding the damper cover to the center wall. Sometimes you can spray the damper with WD40 and free it up.

I have a GE GSS25WGMD BB Fridge. I have already replaced the Defrost Heater and Freezer Thermostat. The lower sections of the fridge and freezer are very cold. The ice maker will not produce ice and the...

First, when the refrigerator is running, open the freezer door and hold in the light switch so the freezer light goes out. You should be able to hear the freezer (evaporator) fan running. If it is running, then you most likely have a problem with the air damper. It is a motorized door in the very upper left side, back corner, of the fresh foods section. The door needs to be open for air to flow into the refrigerator section. If you place your hand near the vent holes at the upper refrigerator section and the freezer fan is running, FF section warm, you should feel cold air entering. If not, the damper door may have broken. It is not real easy to get at to replace, but that is where your problem may be. Be sure to check the freezer fan first, as a non-working icemaker may point in that direction.

Hose keeps coming off icemaker on ge 25 cuft side by side refrigerator.

Defrosted the freezer section and also used a hairdryer to clear out to tube. I left the fill line full of water and heated the water with the hairdryer then forced the water through into the icemaker. So far the hose stayed on and we are making ice again.

Icemaker noises on almost new GE Profile refrigerator

I have not heard of this issue but if it is coming from the icemaker, then it will have to be replaced. You are still under warranty so call to have them replace it now, otherwise the new icemaker will cost you about $125.

Groaning noise on GE side by side refrigerator

Usually the groaning noise is from a locked up icemaker. Remove the icemaker and defrost it with hot water. Check to make sure the unit is in good shape and not chipping. Let it dry out and then reinstall.

Profile refrigerator section not cooling

We are not sure what precipitated the temperature swing up; however, within about an hour of emptying quite a lot of foodstuffs from top and bottom sections of the unit, I felt the cold air start to flow out of the rear vent. Within two hours, the upper section had dropped to about 50 degrees and by the next morning to 36. The freezer seemed to recoved on its own too, having risen to almost 8 degrees and then recovering to 0. Just patience and a smaller food payload?
