Question about Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator

Compressor won't start

Model 10659097993 compressor stopped, when I tapped on the relay box it started, the orange light in the power interrupter flashed and the compressor kept working, but I unplugged it to be safe, trying to determine if it is the run capacitor, the overload or the starting devie, I am thinking it is the starting device but want to be sure. Any advice is appreciated.

Try dumping the compressor so it does not start under a load. sometimes the unloaders get stuck. you can do this by pulling the pin on the pressure relief or opening the bleader on the bottom of the compressor. Be careful when doing this because particals and water can be exausted when you do this.Capacitor can be tested but it has to be unloaded or you will get a bad shock. Some autopart stores check them if they offer the service.

I have a 1999 Whirlpool Refrigerator model ED252FXW01 that has stopped running. I cleaned the vents & it won't start again. Is there a reset button for this model?

You can check down by the compressor however I don\'t think just cleaning the dust bunnies would trip a breaker. May sound stupid but I\'m married so I do stupid. Hook a small appliance to the outlet where you had it plugged in. There is a slight chance , and I am hoping you did unplug it before sticking your hands in there that the contacts in the outlet could be bad and or the wire that is screwed to the out let ( remove the cover be careful due to possible high voltage) that over the years the screw has loosened up and is not making a good connection. I HAVE seen this a lot especially if you have aluminum wiring as it is known for that and you have to every once in a while go through and tighten all connection or you could just pay an electrician to rewire the whole house with modern wiring. Also if you have no voltage check your breaker box to see if the breaker tripped there. The greatest power draw on a cooling device . motor, etc. is the start up that is when most power is needed. I have actually had two yes two fridges die on me until I found out that the lady we bought the house from had experienced the same problem and moved her fridge to a different outlet. Turns out the screw that holds the wire on was loose so there was a loss of amperage and that is really hard on a compressor or motor , relay or anything else is to starve it of power. It will destroy them over time. If you tilted the fridge or laid it on it\'s side ( never ever do) and if you do then I think the recommended time to let it set for the compressor to even out the Freon so it won\'t load up and shut down is 24 hours. If you notice on all fridges shipping boxes it says this side up. You could always try tapping softly with a small hammer or wrench on the compressor incase it\'s stuck. Then it could be the starter relay for the compressor also which is a set up including capacitors so wach out HIGH VOLTAGE is stored in capacitors even though the power is turned off. Good luck

AC compressor won't turn on by itself.

I would check the low pressure switch next. The switch cuts power to the compressor if the pressure is too low. The switch can fail.
Same goes for the high pressure safety switch.
As for leaving the relay bypassed, you would need to use a test light or meter to see if you are using battery power with the key off. I would not recommend it.

Compressor won't start

Whirlpool refrigerators as well as the other brands that fall under the corporation most like at some point within the first five years will stop cooling and freezing, and the sound you here will be either a humming follow by a click or in some cases just the click alone. This is caused by the start device on the compressor, or the compressor itself. Most times its the relay, and repair of this goes as follows:
The relay part of it has basically burnt, fell apart inside, however you want to describe and is not passing the power to the compressor to come on. To access this pull the refrigerator out from the wall, and first and foremost unplug it. Once that is done remove the lower panel, sometimes cardboard sometimes metal which is held up by a few quarter inch screws. Place to the side and located the compressor. The box on the side is start device, it will have 2 or 3 wires going to it, most of the time red and white respectively. Also they maybe a black box thats connected to the start device and sits horizontallty. Thats the capacitor. Keep that if your going to do the repair yourself. I recommend doing it because its very easy and will save you alot of money. You can buy this part at or at just be sure to have your make and model number handy.

There is a power distrobution box under the hood containing relays and a few heavy duty fuses.
I'd take the cover off and find the A/C relay usually depicted in the diagram inside the cover.
Start the car, turn the A/C switch on and then under hood at A/C relay give it a light tap with the handle of a screwdriver to see if compressor clutch on compressor "kicks on".
Relay can even be pulled out and put back in to make a better connection.
I'm betting the problem is that relay...or dirty contacts.

Hope this helps...

Car will turn over but won't start. Through the

No noise from fuel pump when you turn over the car .First thing get voltage at fuel pump relay checked, is there 12 volt to the relay. If no, then problem is again the relay.--------- To reconfirm the problem, try other test, that is remove the relay and by pass the relay terminals with a jumper wire .Then with 12 volt external battery give power to fuel pump connector and see, if the fuel pump starts, then its clear that fuel pump relay is faulty.----------- Also other problem can be fuel pump inertia switch. If the inertia switch is faulty then also fuel pump will not start.-------- The fuel pump relay on a 1995 Ford Explorer is in the power distribution
box, in the engine compartment, driver's side near the firewall.----------
The fuel pump inertia switch is in the right front passenger area
it is below the dash but above the carpet in the right hand corner.--------
Its a push button type inertia switch.
Fuel Pump Activation
When ignition switch is turned to START position, PCM operates fuel pump relay to provide fuel for starting engine. PCM senses engine speed and shuts off fuel pump by opening ground circuit to fuel pump relay when engine stops or engine speed drops to less than 120 RPM. When ignition switch is in ON position, EEC power relay is energized (contacts closed). Power is provided to fuel pump relay and timer in PCM. Fuel pump receives power through fuel pump relay contacts.
Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch
All models use an electrical interrupt switch in fuel system. During a collision or vehicle rollover, electrical contacts within inertia switch open, shutting off fuel supply to electric fuel pump. Fuel supply is interrupted even when engine is running.
A reset button is located on switch assembly. If electrical circuit trips, vehicle will not restart until switch is reset. Fuel system should be inspected before resetting switch.
IFS switch is located under instrument panel, near right side of transmission hump.
----------- If the fuel pump relay, the inertia switch and fuel pump all checked ok, and fuel pump is working with direct 12 volt source to fuel pump. Then problem relates to computer. The computer (power control module, PCM) is faulty and has to be replaced.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Woke up this morning and the fridge was not working, It is like there is no power on to it. I checked the breaker and it was not tripped I did reset it to check but still nothing.

If there is not lights or anything in the refrigerator, then you aren't getting power. Start out checking the outlet - if you don't have a multimeter to check it, use a hair dryer plugged in to that outlet to see if it will work. If it doesn't then it is between that outlet and the main circuit breaker box or even a bad circuit breaker.

If it does work or you have lights in your refrigerator it is probably either the starting capacitor, start relay or compressor.

LG refrigerators are more sensitive to power fluctuations than other models and we have had to replace a lot of starting caps and relays - but sometimes it is the compressor.

Hope this helps!

Maytag MSD2756DE refrigerator start relay keeps failing. Suspicion is that very short (1-5 second) interruptions in the electric supply are the cause My question: Would an appropriately sized...

An interruption in the power supply would usually show in other electrical fixtures in the house. A UPS is not recommended for a power back up on a refrigerator.

The condition you describe usually indicates that either the compressor is working too hard and drawing too much current or the start relay is gone bad. The starting and stopping that you hear is a safety shut-off within the relay. A good place to start is changing start relay for the factory recommended one.

If the standard relay does not correct the problem, there is in most cases a temporary fix, it is called a hard start relay/capacitor. It is usually available from an appliance parts retailer for around $15 to $20. Installation instructions are included, just be sure to unplug your refrigerator first and make sure that someone following you can repair from where you left off. This relay assembly can normally get you up and running but it should not be used as a permanent fix. This will not correct for a refrigerant leak in the system. Outside of this may require having a professional come in to fix the issue, it can range anywhere from a faulty compressor to a refrigerant leak.

Check your refrigerator owners manual before making any repairs or modifications to your refrigerator, there may be an extended warranty on the sealed system and compressor if needed.

Whirl pool side by side refrigerator problem

It looks like the Capacitor Start Relay is failing.  It is located either on the starter Relay or mounted on the side of the compressor compartment.  It sould have two wires on it, one orange and the other probably white.
