SOURCE: refrigerator repairs

check freezer for frost build up on back wall and if fan blowing, check condenser make sure clean, and fan blowing, check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, freezer control should be in the middle setting, you can try turning that to Warmer freezer allowing MORE air to refrigertor side.

SOURCE: refrigerator and freezer are not cool

Hi,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

thanks,

SOURCE: Warm refrigerator compartment

There is a fan that blows the cold air down from the freezer to the fridge compartment. It is usually called a freezer fan. Most of them are behind the plastic lining in the freezer. I just noticed that your fridge is a side by side. I have never wored on a side by side but I imagine there is fan in them as well.

SOURCE: FREEZER RUNNING OK REFRIGERATOR NOT COOLING

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the freezer...you should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: http://romulusappliance.com/manufacturers/maytag/refrigerators/575432.JPG defrost stat http://www.hotekalliance.com/UploadFiles/2008627111553382.jpg heaters http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/EvapMotor1018185.jpg evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck!

Refrig compartment does not cool on my new Kemore Frig.

Check and make sure the fan in the freezer is running. if not possible bad fan. If fan is running, check to see if you have any ice built up on back freezer wall. Normally frost type ice. If so, you may possibly have a bad defrost bi-metal mounted in the freezer section. Next could be a defrost timer control. Model number usally will help more in getting it right.

My freezer is working but the refrigerator is not cool at all. we had a black out and it came back on then the lights went out again. since then the refrigerator is not cooling. Thank you

Good day,
If the fresh food section was O.K. then after the power failed off and on, the first thing to check is the fan motor in the freezer section. It was probably burned out. Open the freezer compartment when the machine is running, you should hear the fan running, if not, remove the back panel, and check the motor, and replace if needed.
If the fan motor is running, remove the rear panel and look for ice/frost buildup on freezer coil.
If Iced, then the defrost system has failed.
The defrost system is made up of 3 parts. The main heater, mounted across the bottom of the coil, the defrost thermostat, a small 1'' round disk mounted to the top of the coil.
Both can be tested with an ohm meter, but must be done before the coil reaches 32 degrees, or the test won't work. Both should read zero ohms
Lastly the timer or adaptive defrost control, mounted in the fresh food compartment.
Below is an excellant tutorial on defrost systems.

Fridge not working properly on kenmore bottom freezer model 596.7

I have a similar problem, although I have no cooling in the fridge section. Had a repair man indicate that the electrical panal(pcb board) needs to be replaced. It is on order ($200). Sure hope that is the issue. To me, it appeared that the freezer fan(which cools the fridge) was not working. Whether that is the result of a faulty electrical panal is yet to be determined. Good luck!
