SOURCE: lcd montior with tv box but no hdmi sound

in some cases certain manufacturers say in the instructions that when using s video with seperate audio, you cannot use the HDMI for the sound and sometimes visa versa, it's just the way the output is set up. Remove the other sound cable you are using for pc or tv and just use HDMI to confirm that the sound is re-enabled on the HDMI

SOURCE: connecting dvi cable straight to acer monitor

The cable box is probably outputting a resolution the monitor is not compatible with. Computer monitor and television resolutions are usually different, and not cross compatible in some cases.

For example, wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect ratio, while TV is usually 16:9 aspect.

The AL2216wbd is a 1680x1050 display, while HD TV is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080).

If your cable box is set to 1080i that would be too high for the monitor. You will need to set it to output at 720p, and even then you will probably get a vertically stretched picture since the monitor has a taller aspect.

SOURCE: Connecting an LCD TV to a computer to use as TV and Comp. Monitor.

Im no expert on the subject, but I use my L37 for a monitor, and use just the vga adapter. It works good as a monitor, and both dvds and my hdtv wonder tuner card look great through the vga connection. They do make adapters for dvi to hdmi. Although, hdmi also carries sound, but you wont get that out of your dvi output from your card. So you might not have sound when using that connection, as your tv may not look to the headphone type jack used for sound imput from your computer when you select the hdmi source on it. If you have speakers already connected to your computer you may not care. Also if you have a 720 p Vizio, 1366x768 is the highest resolution you are going to get out of it anyway, if I'm not mistaken. I'm Not sure why you would need 2 connectios to the same monitor either. I posted 1 link below because they had several dvi to hdmi adapters. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: input select button to switch between hdmi/dvi/vga

Unless there is simply some dirt or dust caught in it, I would imagine that the button has lost its 'spring' or bounce-back ability which means that either you can take the big risk of attempting to fix it or come up with some other clever way to give it bounce.

My monitor(HPL1950) was working good until i unplugged it from my computer to play on PS3. When i connected the monitor to my PS3 with HDMI it showed black screen...with small text. I took a pic of it

You can download the manual for the monitor from this page (
HP L1950 19 inch LCD Monitor )

If you go to page 28, it shows where, in the on-screen menus, that you can select the video input. The factory default is to auto-select, but if that's been changed, then you'll just display what's not coming in from your computer any more. Since the monitor is working, that will hopefully let you select the HDMI input and be up and running.

Good Luck!

Seeing comments on link not working. Works OK for me - takes me to a HP download site where you click the second group for the PDF. If it's still not working, the process is:
1) press the menu button on the front of the monitor.

2) Go to the Select Input icon, which will look like a box with a 1 and a 2 in it.

3) Select the input.

Although.... looking at your picture more clearly, and confirming with the manual, this monitor is listed as having DVI and VGA inputs. No documentation for an HDMI input. Plus it can act as a USB hub so that you can run one transfer USB from your computer port and then use the monitor to centralize mouse, keyboard, nerf-launcher, coffee warmer, etc. If you're plugging, or trying to plug an HDMI cable into the monitor, you are likely plugging into a USB port, which may both be messing up the port or the cable, and confusing a monitor looking for a USB handshake instead of an HDMI video stream. If there really is a labeled HDMI port on this monitor, then it's an undocumented feature that didn't make it into the manual for the L1950.

This may be bad news, but it sounds like the root of the problem. If so, there are plenty of adapters like here : http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=2029&gclid=CjwKEAiA3_axBRD5qKDc__XdqQ0SJAC6lecApJLl4RLTcmO9LFq57Vfo6m2PTtkGd-02Zzkf4t69ZRoCVs_w_wcB (the edit isn't giving me live links. Just search for HDMI-female to DVI Male adapter on your search engine of choice and you should find gear starting at a couple of bucks up and up to serve as an adapter. That will hopefully do the trick if this is a case of mistaken port function.

Good Luck!

What could be the probelm with my Acer monitor,my acer monitor says "No signal" and I think the connection is good

Check the back of the monitor. Do you have multiple video input capability (ie: VGA/DVI/HDMI) ? If so, open the on-screen menu and check to see if you have selected the correct input for your connection. Not all monitors auto-sense and select active inputs.

Why my Pc monitor showing Input not supported?

There are several inputs that a monitor can handle depending if it's capable of doing so. For example, just like TV, if you want to watch a DVD, you have to change the input to Video and going back to TV, just choose TV input. The same way for computer monitors. If the monitor supports VGA, DVI, HDMI and others, you have to select the right input depending of the type of Video cable connected from your tower to the monitor. If you it is connected via VGA, choose VGA input. If the cable is HDMI, select HDMI. That will let your monitor switch from one input to the other..

Hope that works for you. -
I'll appreciate the feedback and the thumbs up.
Thanks.

I have a dell dimension 3000, bought a new HP 2310E monitor with 3 ports. DVI, HDMI & display port. Told to buy a cable with VGA to connect to dell and DVI to connect to HP Monitor display port....

Hi sshorne9780,

I see that you are having a check input error on the Monitor/LCD that your are connecting to your Dell tower, please see steps below.

  • On your HP 2310E make sure that your HP is set to the input/source that you are using and make sure that you only use one type of video cable for the issue.
  • I see that you mentioned that you have a VGA cable and a DVI cable, you can only use one type of cable for a video connection.
  • VGA would be the Blue tipped cable connecting to the tower and going to the LCD monitor.
  • DVI this is a black cable connecting to a white port much bigger than a VGA port and is rectangular in shape unlike the VGA
  • moz-screenshot.pngmvincentc_34.jpg
  • and on your LCD monitor check the input type to see video from the tower.
  • everything seems to be OK you just need to change the input of your LCD monitor for the video to show up on the screen.
  • also if you are using HDMI for the video u will need to change the setting of your Audio and set HDMI as the Default to have Audio come out from the HDMI connection together with video, the HDMI viedo will automatically be detected as long as the LCD monitor's input is set to HDMI.
I hope that this will able to help resolve your concern.

Thank you for choosing Fixya,

How do i hook up my ps3 and xbox and get 720p, i have the dtv34xr

You would have to hook it up on the VGA input so you will need a component to VGA lead. I am not sure that the component input supports HD on that monitor but I think the VGA input does.
I hope that helps, Will you let me know how you get on please?

(If the picture does not lock on the monitor then I don't think there is much you can do as it will be that the refresh rate of the ps3 is wrong and as far as I know it depends on games/ regions and cant be changed. You would then need an expensive hdmi to vga converter, not worth it better to get a new monitor)

I have my PS3 hooked to the HDMI port, but the monitor won't switch inputs to the HDMI port. If I have something plugged into the dvi port it works fine, but I currently need only the HDMI port, and do...

There are a varity of HDMI cables, ensure that your version is supported also using the input touch "button" to change the input through VGA, DVI and HDMI.

I want to hook up external speakers to my Acer H213H for when my PS3 is hooked up to it.

What method are you using to connect to the monitor?

If you are using the HDMI -> DVI adapter it does not support sound. HDMI does, but DVI does not.

If that's the way you are set up then all you need to do is use the HDMI -> DVI adapter for your video and use the regular RCA connections for audio.

You can set the video and audio settings in the PS3 with the "Display Settings" and "Sounds Settings"

That way you just use the red and white RCA ends to connect to a speaker system, the yellow won't be in use at all.

If Im not mistaken, that Acer monitor only has a VGA connection for input. There is no way that Im aware of to have the PS3 output VGA, so I believe the answer is no, you will not be able to. sorry.
