Question about Panasonic Toughbook 50 Notebook

1 Answer

I can't hear any sound

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF50GB2UUDM I had to upgrade it to XP but now i cant find the disk with all the drivers, I downloaded most of the drivers through driver detective and it downloaded the newest Realtek AC97 driver which was WDM_A406, I tried to install it and it starts fine but then it says it is not digitally signed and when i click continue anyway after a minute it gives me a blue screen and the computer turns off, I tried other earlier versions of the driver but it still stops and gives me the blue screen, I would like to know if anyone out there knows what audio drivers works for this laptop i downloaded some from the panasonic site but i cant seem to install them they just give me some .sys files and when i go to add new hardware it just finds the realtek drivers. By the way the laptop has an Intel Pentium M processor 1600 MHZ and 512 MB of RAM

Thats the wrong Drivers. Remove your Sound Drivers and Install this one: "SigmaTelTM STAC9767 AC-97 v.2.1" In Bios also set to Default settings, Release IRQ Settings. this should help with the Blue Screen. If you have problems uninstalling sound drivers check if you have an option to temp dissable sound chip in Bios. Hope this helps. More tips at www.powerjackrepair.com

Factory restore

The following information comes from the Panasonic Website:

Recovery DVDs are available by mail for select Toughbook® products. Windows® XP back up service is only available to customers who purchased Panasonic computers with XP downgrade rights. Windows XP Backup Image and Windows 7 Recovery DVDs restore a PC to its original factory image. The standard Panasonic factory image includes the Windows operating system and all drivers/applications originally installed by Panasonic.

Most 2011 models of Panasonic Toughbook computers now have a Recovery partition on the hard drive instead of a Recovery DVD included in the laptop box. The only exceptions are the Toughbook F9, H2 and U1 Ultra which will continue to ship with a Windows 7 Recovery DVD. Besides restoring the computer to its original factory image, the Recovery Partition can also be used to load 64-bit Windows 7 Professional (32-bit ships by default from Panasonic).

You can order the Recovery Disks here:

The best way to "Factory" Restore your Panasonic
Toughbook CF74 is to use the original recovery

If you can't find them, you can order them from

Can not install os, computer says no hard disk installed

This laptop has a SATA hard drive.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.
