Question about Cell Phones
I think it is in silent mode and I need to know how to turn that off?

I have read the manual for your Samsung SGH-d357 and you need to set the ALERT TYPE, this allows you to set the alert default. Choose from Melody, Vibrate, or Vibrate then Melody You need to choose Melody. This will ring but not vibrate. All you have to do is hold the pound (#) button down. It will then say exit silent mode. If you ever want to put your phone back in silent mode, just hold the pound (#) button down.
