SOURCE: We have a new dishwasher,

Its sounds as though your water harness is very high.
You have to add salt into the salt dispenser and set the machine for the "hardness" value in your area.
Your water company can tell you how hard the water is.
With the correct setting on the machine it will release salt to soften the water.
The salt you need is not cooking salt but one for a dishwasher available from supermarket.

Glassware cloudy or filmy

Soak the glasses in vinegar and rub the cloudy film off.

I find there is better luck with glasses, and we wash a lot of them, if you use rinse aid. Higher temperatures might also help, but opinions vary.

Why is my dishwasher making my glassware dull ? and knives rusty?

They all do given time. The water is rushing out at a high speed and hiting the glass which minutly scratches the sufaces. Either buy cheap glasses and throw away when unclear or have good glasses and wash up by hand. Anne Melhuish

Glasses marked in dishwasher

This is etching caused by your water source and detergent.
Begin using a detergent brand called FINISH or ELECTROSAL
Also use the LEMISHINE product to clean the dishwasher internally.
If you can not find LEMISHINE,start your dishwasher normally and with NO dishes. Once it starts add 2 cups of WHITE vinegar to the wash tub and let the machine run a full cycle.
These steps should produce cleaner dishes and no etching.
It will not remove etching from existing glassware.

My glasses are cloudy.

Yes. Dishwashers do that to lead crystal glass.

It's irreversible and is caused by microscopic surface cracks in the glass; dishwasher manufacturers generally advise against washing lead crystal for that very reason.

You can get "glass friendly" dishwasher tablets/powder but it's more expensive and only slows the rate at which lead crystal will cloud.

Cloudy glasses

Dishwashing detergent will etch fine glassware. Don't wash them in the dishwasher.

Glasses are not clean, come out cloudy and someimes have small food particles left on glasses

When the glassware comes out with a film on them (cloudy) the most common problem is a failed heating element. When it is repaired, the wash water will be heated to the proper temp to activate the dishwasher powder/detergent.

Please report back here what you find. OK?

Glassware comes out cloudy and not clean

This problem occurs due to excessive calcium build up inside the dishwasher. Try cleaning you dishwasher using a dishwasher cleaner. There are a few out there.

Dishwasher magic is a very good Dishwasher cleaner.

I would also recommend checking the water temp. it should be about a
120 degrees Fahrenheit when entering the dishwasher.

There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Make sure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm.

SMELLY GLASSES

Suggest running a rinse cycle once or twice, if this does not help, try mixing one or two table spoons of baking soda into 500 ml - liter of warm water and wipe down the interior of your dishwasher.

After wiping down, run the rinse cycle again before attempting a normal wash.

Try to avoid washing pans with glassware, as some coatings ( that may be dishwasher safe ) have a tendency to react with the detergent, thus creating an unclean smell on other utensils, plates or glass.

Wash pans on their own, or in a conventional sink.
