Do you get any error message?
This is fairly simple to doRight Click (on Desktop) > Personalize > Choose whichever theme you like.
There should not be any problem unless you are using non-microsoft themes which might not be compatible, or the theme file is damaged.

HOW TO DELETE AERO FROM MY WIN 7 HOME

Windows Aero Glass is Microsoft's 3-D high-end interface for Windows 7. In order to get this interface, you must be running a video card that supports running Aero Glass. Some video cards barely support running Aero Glass and performance suffers and the computer will lag. By simply disabling Aero Glass, you can take a crawling computer and bring new life into it. In any situation, if you want to increase performance, disable Aero Glass.

Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize. Select Windows 7 Basic theme and a "Please Wait" icon appears and changes your theme. Microsoft windows 7 has default 5 theme but Windows 7 beta 1 build 7000 onwards has several hidden & locked themes provided for regional countries such as Australia, Canada, Great Britain, United States and South Africa.Since these hidden themes are installed along with your Windows 7 installation you can unlock/unhide these hidden Windows 7 Themes for regional contries. Below are three deferent methods to get Windows 7 hidden themes.

2. Navigate to C:WindowsGlobalizationMCT.
3. Open a MCT-(AU, CA, GB, US, or ZA) folder for the regional theme that you want.
NOTE: AU, CA and ZA regions all have the same themes though.
4. Open the Theme folder in the selected region folder.
5. Select the .theme file to use it.
NOTE: Once you select a .theme file, Windows 7 will save it so that you will be able to change or select this theme again from within the normal Personalization window location.
6. Hide the Windows 7 System and Protected Operating System files.
7. Enjoy your new regional themes!!
Method 2: Using windows 7 Search (Simplest Method)1. Go to Windowswinsxs Directory

My computer crashed win7 theme error

try to boot from windows7 cd-rom, without installing it, choose fixing errors.

if impossible at first try,

press F2-button while system boot(before windows takes over),
enter bios-setup and change

BOOT DEVICE PRIORITY to

1st: CD/DVD
2nd: Hard disk/HDD
3rd: (whatsoever availabe)
.
.

please remember to exit BIOS saving changes!
(press Esc button after changing the above, confirm: ...Exit bios saving changes ? - Yes)

if you are asked now :

boot from cd-rom or hdd ?

choose cd-rom, let it work and wait.
in the following, do not reinstall windows 7
but choose a repair option,
leave the setup, remove cd/dvd etc from all drives and reboot, wait.

the regular windows screen should show up...
if this does not work, please ask s.o. who knows around with win 7 or think of downgrading from win7 to winxp professional.
as it is older but reliable, still supported and some win-pro's use it.
win 7 features are available but you'll need time to set up the whole system, incl. drivers etc.

this could work...if not ask me to post some links

now retry to boot from Windows 7 CD-ROM,
do not install, cjoose repa

all i can recommend: if you are a bit into computers, think of swapping from windows 7
