Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

We have a Hitachi C28W1TN, which is just under 10 years old that has recently started switching itself off. It goes onto standby by itself and when we switch it back on, it instantly does it again. At first, it started happening when we had been watching the tv for a couple of hours or so. We would switch off the main power for a few seconds and then switch it back on and it would be fine again for a few more hours. But over the last couple of weeks it has got progressively worse and now it happens after it has only ben on for 15 minutes or so and even when we switch off the main power, it happens again 5 minutes later. We have tried covering up the sensor for the remote incase it is picking up some signal from elsewhere but that makes no difference. Any ideas as what may be the cause would be greatly appreciated. Is worth taking it to be repaired? Thanks.

It's been a while since this post, but I may have had a similar problem with my Hitachi. With no reason it would switching on and off randomly. The problem was with a solder joint on main relay - it was cracked and would not keep the coil powered so i kept flickering on/off. This relay is located on the front of pcb, between high voltage area and the switch and on my tv it is blue. Check all four joints and apply some new solder onto them. Make sure the tv is not connected to mains ;-) Hope this helps

My sony KP-443X3U rear projection tv went to standby and I cannot get it to switch on. It is approx 6 years old. I think the bulb needs to be replaced?

Google the model number to locate it with "lamp" and You Tube has video instructions for replacing in most models--lamp has a 2,000 hour or 2 year average life and is meant to be replaceable by the customer who owns the set.

based on what you've described it sounds like your problem lies in your Convergence IC's, These are Two To Three Big Black Parts Located to One Side of the Chasis with Heat Sinks, They Start with a STK392-110 or they could be 120's. Look For loose solder connections first, resolder, if that doesn't hold, replace the stk's, and double check resistors around the ic's

I do not think the Dog broke anything. I do think though the Optical Block assembly needs to be replaced to fix the problem. Do to the cost of repair, I would contact Hitachi to see if they could assist you in the cost and recommending a Service Facility near you to do the work.
I hope this helps,
