Two cycle weed eater flooded and hydrolocked

I pour the gas in the tank and it all flows in the cylinder and I am unable to pull the cord. I remove the spark plug and all the fuel pours out the cylinder

Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:
Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting fire at the spark plug.
You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and pulling the crank rope, if you are getting spark then:
Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your caburetor jets,fuel passages or a diaphgram that is becoming non-flexible.
Check/Clean/Replace your Air Filter, a dirty air filter can make your engine run to rich with fuel.
NOTE: Before you disassemble the carburetor:
Mark each piece with a awl, or some kind of instrument that will make an alignment scratch before you disassemble the carburetor into separate pieces.
That way you will know which way it goes back together when you reassemble it.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or by using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that, and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Be sure to check your fuel tank for water and dirt/debris, if there is water/debris then you need to clean your tank.
Check you fuel line condition after a while they will degrade and need replacment.
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of weedeaters.
When you remove your fuel lines from the carburetor be sure to make a drawing to how the lines are connected to the carburetor.
Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.
Make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple of years old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
The diaphgram may look good and flexible, but it can be deceiving and not act as a fuel pump as it should because it has become too hard.
When you clean your carburetor, I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.
Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.
Be sure to use COMPRESSED AIR to blow out all the fuel and air passages.The higher air pressure is needed to blow some of the trash/debris from the fuel or air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Keep in mind that the float (if you have one) for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit, or you could also ask the parts man that you get your kit from.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their original position before you started.
Note:
The little spring inside of the carburetor goes under the float arm.
That is where your fuel inlet needle/float valve is located...on the arm at the end.
Normally there is a small indetion in the carburetor base and a small protrusion on the underneath of the float arm where the spring will be in the right postion for installation.
The spring will set in the indention and you will install the float arm with the needle/float valve and float rod into position over top of the spring,you will push down until it is in position and then you can tighten the screw that holds the float arm assembly in position.
Once you have your carburetor rebuilt that should solve your problem.

SOURCE: gas weed eater pull cord wont retract after pulling cord

remove the cover and the screw holding the recoil down, turning the pulley ccw should release the spring then wind rope around pulley and (hopefully yours has the slot in it) wind in the direction of the pulley teeth then, holding rope in slot put back on spring and wind cw till almost tight, and install screw. Usually you can do this without taking rope handle off. sometimes you have to remove handle. look at spring end in the middle and make sure its not broke as long as you have it apart. Its a easy fix.

clean grass off between shaft and the top of the head. hold weed eater still and turn the head, looking between the shaft and the top of the head. There will be what looks like a hole. Place something there that will keep the shaft from turning, then twist the head off.

I have a Ryobi 4-cycle S430 weedeater. Do you use regular gas? If so,what type of oil do you use?


A 4-cycle engine requires regular gasoline whereas a 2-cycle engine requires oil to be mixed with the gas.
A 4-cycle engine requires regular gas in the gas tank and engine oil in another tank. Your owners manual will tell you what grade of oil to pour into the oil tank compartment of the weed-eater.
A 2-cycle engine requires regular gas plus a certain amount of 2-in-1 oil mixed with it. The oil that is mixed into the gas container and shaken together to "mix" the gas and oil before pouring into the gas/oil tank helps to lubricate the moving parts of the engine like the piston movement between the piston and the pistons' wall known as the cylinder wall. Also the oil aids in the creation of a tight seal which causes compression to occur that is responsible for optimum operation of the engine itself. It also provides lubrication to the piston rings and reduces friction as the piston rings push against the cylinder wall.
4-cycle engine oil can be purchased at any oil store like Canadian Tire/Sears/Napa Auto Parts. Just ask for oil for your weed-eater and let them know that your engine requires 4-cycle engine oil. I am sure the service clerk will point you in the right direction.

LOW COMPRESSION ON A WEED EATER; WON'T START


If it's a 2 cycle. Check that your piston and cylinder are not scored. Do this by removing the muffler and look into the cylinder as you slowly pull the cord. If you see score marks you may be able to find a new cylinder/ piston depending on brand and rebuild.

If it's a 4 cycle ohv(stihl) is could be the valves needing adjustment.

be sure fuel filter is on the primary fuel line in the tank.check primer bulb and fuel lines.also check fuel tank cap.vented cap may be stopped up

My weed eater won't crank


If you String Trimmer wont crank, take out the plug and then try to pull the cord. If you can get the motor to spin freely after the plug is out, then you have one of two issue. Either deposit on the cylinder which is allowing to much compression to build up, Simple fix (buy some Seafoam from your local auto parts store. Remove the exaust and pour some seafoam into the cylinder. Let it sit over night and then clean with 2 cycle fuel, either blow out with an air compressor or let it air dry. Then put the plug, and exhaust back together and that should help. If that doesnt work then you need to see if your carb is leaking into the cylinder, causing hydo-lock, your only option is to rebuild the carb, or buy a new carb.)

My weed eater (toro), won't let me pull the cord at all. This weed eater doesn't take oil I don't think.


All internal combustion engines use oil of some description. I take it this is a 2 cycle engine and you have not added oil to the gas. If this is the case the engine is locked up, and must be replaced. Sorry.

I found the manual for this model weed eater, according to the manual the mixture...
and I quote "This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline. Before operation, gasoline
must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air cooled engine oil designed to be
mixed at a Ratio of 40:1 ...."
and I quote once more from the manual "Helpful Tip. To obtain
correct oil mix ration, pour 3.2 ounces of 2 cycle synthetic oil into one gallon of fresh gas."

Do you add the oil first or the gas first?


If you're talking about mixing two-cycle oil with gas for a two stroke motor, always mix it in a gas can then pour it in the weed eater. It's easier to put the oil in the gas can first then fill it with gas to get the two mixed well.
