Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
It's usually a config.sys/system error or config.sys/software error and I have to run chkdsk /r at least once a week to fix the problem. What could be the cause and how can I permanently fix this? Replace the hard drive?
On the dell screen press f12 run the diagnostic option if anything fails replace that part. If nothing fails try system restore or just reload the computer with the operating system disk

There are several ways to reset the password on the D600 laptop. Some require special eeprom reading equipment. However, there are some who've stumbled upon a "paper-clip" method that involves shorting the eeprom while booting the laptop. There are two of these methods in general.
One requires removing the entire cover of the laptop, then creating the mentioned short-circuit, then booting the laptop. This site: http://www.weeklygripe.co.uk/a709.asp#guide shows the process step-by-step with high-quality photos. If you are at all handy with a screwdriver, this can be done in about a half-hour and you are ready to go.
If you are a bit less handy, there is a one-panel removal trick that this guy has posted on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx5HBHgv8T8&NR=1&feature=fvwp
The preferred method is to contact Dell. However, Dell will only help you if they can verify the chain of ownership of the laptop. This involves the original owner having thought to contact Dell and let them know that you are now the new owner. This can still be done now, if that owner is available and willing.
Also, there are companies that specialize in password recovery. Nearly every one of them will either get you the current password or reset it for you. Some also sell software to do the same. Since they are all nearly as effective as the other, you should really shop around for price if you choose to go this route.
Choose a method, be careful, and you will have your laptop unlocked in no time.
I hope this helps

Replace the internal speakers. Rather large pain since you have to almost disassemble the system to get to them.
