Start Simple...!

I know this may sound too simple, but if you are replacing the Power Unit due to and old one blowing, it may well have blown fuses. Check them! in all mains plugs related to PC.

Also, are ALL you connections made. I.e. take off the front cover and check that the power button connector is attached to both button and board.

what are you running?
do you have NVidia Cards Running in Dual sli mode? - this is power hungry, you'll need 500w plus, i have a 600watt unit for this (i run 2 x 9600's in sli mode - i know 400w would never cope with the power demands of CPU's -quad- and GPU's - Dual - plus the 3 or 4 fans you will have on-board.

A little more info on the machine you are building/running would help.

a common old circuit tester would help out here also, to find out if power -when switched on at the main rear switch - is reaching the board, Are there any leds etc on at all?

I hope this is some help, .... Double check all connections...

otherwise post back with system spec and i will find a more precise and definite answer for you..

How many computer pieces can be connected to standby power supply?

depends on VA rating of standby power.
depends on how critical computer is
You may decide to not backup power for printers and scanners as they may be less critical during short power failures.
You may be able to not backup screen monitors power and just the desk top computer if not extremely critical and you just need to protect from short power failures. This loses the computer screen making it unusable but when the power returns the computer is still working. It reduces the power drain on the Standby Power Supply .
Time is also a requirement. The more you plug in the less standby power time you have.
At a guess the computer would drag about 400 Watts of power so if VA of standby power was rated at 400 VA then one 400 Watt unit.
Your standby power may have an over load protection and if overloaded will shut down.

Dell inspiron 560 power supply problem

This could be either power supply or motherboard problem. If the fans on the motherboard and power supply are spinning then it's probably the motherboard which you can check by removing the memory and unplugging the data lead off your hard drive. It should start beeping.
If not, then it's probably the power supply. They are easy enough to change - half a dozen plugs and four screws. I always replace standard power supplies with a 400 watt one. It will tell you the wattage on the label, I would add 100 to that figure and get that size or bigger - depending what's available.
It will not hurt to replace a 250 watt unit with a 500 watt unit so don't worry about that. It gives you room for expansion.

The Dell Mini-Tower Studio computer won't turn on? This occurred about 4 months ago it did the same, then all of a sudden we pushed the button and it turned on.

The power source is failing - it will have to be replaced. You can find a generic 400 watts one in almost every shop that sells pc's. Installing it is easy - the cables plug only the right way.

Need a new power supply what are the options?

any atx power supply will work. Look on the old power supply to get the wattage rating and get one comparable. If it's 250 watt you can get a 250 or 300 watt, if it's 400 watt you can get a 400 or 500 watt so forth and so on, but I wouldn't get on of less wattage than the original. Go to newegg.com they have lots of choices and at good prices. Hope this helps.

Power supply has a continues blink instead of a solid led light.

HP skimps on power supplies, using a supply that has only a small margin of excess power. This causes the supplies to run under stress too often.
Make sure any replacement supply has the correct physical configuration for your system and replace it with one that is capable of 50% more power than the original rating; the cost difference is likely to be minimal and in any case lower than an 'original HP' unit of the same power rating that has now failed.
It is possible that a failed mother board or hard drive is causing your problem but you are risking well under $50 (for an ~400 watt supply) and will be getting a superior unit. eBay is a good source and you can seek a replacement using the Pavilion series name and then checking for your particular model number.

Optical drives gone after replacing power supply unit

I suspect something was not plugged in correctly. Double check all the IDE cables and power cords, make sure that the slave drive and master drive are set correctly. This is determined by a set of jumpers on the end of the drives. The one set to master should be at the end of the IDE cable.

The other possibilities are that the power supply does not supply enough power for the system (which I doubt unless you have done some serious upgrading to the Video card and/or processor), or else there was some damage done to something on the motherboard via static shock during the PSU switch.

I need a manual or product number for power supply power supply order #

No you don't. If you think the power supply is bad, then unplug it, unscrew it, and take it to a discount place like Fry's to simply match it. Compaq does not make its own power supplies, so they use generic ones, like everyone else does. The only thing you have to choose is how many watts you need. The original may have been rated too small if it went bad, and you many want one with more power, like 500 watts.

I shut my HP 520 desktop down for three days and when i returned, it will not switch on at all..the power button has a constant blue 'glow light' but fans, etc and usual bright blue when pushed does not...

Your power button is sticky. This means your button is not spring back when you push it. Therefore you are putting the computer in hibernation mode or standby mode.

Hp compaq d530 400 watt power supply

You will not find a power supply for this case. Why would you want to upgrade such an old computer? Get yourself a new one with amply power for your needs. If you are one that upgrades regularly, get a standard case with standard components that can be upgraded without the hassle of replacing proprietary form-factor compnents.
