The washer needs to be unplugged and all connectors need to be disconnected. You will need to remove the back panel before any connectors can be reached. lable first so you will not forget what goes where. When all connectors are disconnected you will need about six feet of space in front of washer so you can lean or move unit forward. you will have to shimmy the water input tray as you do this.

SOURCE: how do I get to the lid switch to replace it on my washer

Pull of the end caps #14 & 11 on the diagram. Remove the screws and the front panel will flip up. Then there are 2 clips connecting the bac to the cabimet. Snap those out and the the WHOLE front of the machine comes off if you tilt it forward. Go to sears.com and parts to bring up any model for anything and you can kind of see how things go together. Good luck.

SOURCE: can't get top off kenmore washer model # 110 22852 100

No problem. What you want to do is this, remove the screws from the back panel first to remove that metal plate protecting the wires. Once off you need to take off the two covers on the sides of the control panel. There is one on each side, just pop them off. Once off you will see there is a screw under there holding the control panel in place. Remove the screws and that will lean back. Next take a flat head screw driver and put it under the lip of the lid on the front of the washer. I mean the lip that is about an inch down from the top on the front. Pry up and the whole lid will pop up. You will see the lid switch there held in by a screw, follow the wire to where it plugs in and unplug it and replace with the new one. Let me know if you have any other questions and if this was helpful to you. Always happy to help and good luck.

SOURCE: Whirlpool MOdel 110 23832100 Lid Switch is broken, need replacing

The following link explains step-by-step how to access the lid and replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

You do not necessarily have to disassemble the entire washer, but you DO need to release the clips that hold the washer casing to the back panel and frame so you can lift the case up enough to access the lid switch. The switch is mounted to the underside of the washer top panel. With the washer case installed, it can be difficult (if not impossible) to access the switch through the wash tub opening. The process is much easier than it sounds and will offer you the best access. Removing the washer case will also offer the quickest method of installation.

If you have not purchased a replacement switch, yet, you can purchase them from any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. the first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If you do not wish to order on line, this is a common part that any appliance parts retailer should carry as part of their in-store inventory. The part number for the model number you provided is 3949238.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

My kenmore elite model 110.15962401 . you have to push down hard on the lid for the cycle to start. how can i correct this

Hi there,

Well it means there is some problem in the Lid switch  - If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch.
The lid may have a striker which depresses the switch when the lid is closed. Make sure the striker is functioning and aligned with the hole over the switch. Inspect the switch and make sure the metal strip is not bent out of position (if present). If your switch uses a mercury switch, make sure the mercury envelops the internal contacts when it is in the closed lid position.
If it's defective, you need to replace it.
A lid switch price is about $20

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Kenmore washer series 80 will aitiate but not spin with load

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

Power to the outlet, but apparently no power at the touch pad - it is non responsive with no indicator lights on.

1. No power to the washer
Make sure there's power getting to the washer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power. Sometimes the power cord disconnects at the washer, if this is the case, the wiring must be repaired or replaced.

2. Lid switch
The washing machine may not function if the lid switch is defective. The switch is usually located near the door. Replace if found defective.

If all the above checks out OK, replace the touch pad.

Will not spin

Probably a defective spin switch. Mounted on top of the washer, should be a 3/8" hole covered with rubber. Open the top (not the lid) of the washer, by-pass the switch if you are confident you can do it. If it works while the switch is by-passed, replace the switch.

My washing machine model 110.24642300 was washing last night and just stopped after filling half way. what do I need to do

Hi,
Lid switch
If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.

Good luck...

Broken Machine-Kenmore 70 series Washing Machine

This is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If your model number is correct, the lid switch for your washer is located under the right hand side of the washer casing along the wash tub rim. The switch is activated by a small plastic piece on the washer lid (called a "lid strike") through a small hole. The switch contacts close when you shut the lid. In many cases, the lid switch either comes loose, or the lid strike breaks off. In both cases, the washer will exhibit the symptoms you describe. Open and close the washer lid and listen for a distinctive "clicking" sound as the switch contacts close. If you cannot hear the switch, make sure the lid strike is intact and the mounting screws for the lid switch (located around the wash tub opening on the casing) are tight. Sometimes, all it takes is to tighten the lid switch screws to realign it with the lid strike. If the switch is defective, or the strike is missing, parts can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number, which can be found on a nameplate under the washer lid. The lid switch and lid strike will be listed under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. Other sites that offer competitive pricing are repairclinic.com and appliancepartspros.com. If you require instructions on how to replace the switch, you may use the following link:

If you have questions, or if the diagnosis is incorrect, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

No power Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?
