Ice cube tray melts and refreezes

I had a problem with water dripping from the ice maker area. I shut off the ice maker and emptied it out. I started adding ice manually to the ice storage container instead of using the maker. I noticed a few days after adding the ice cubes in the storage bin, that a large icicle about 4 inches in diameter was created inside the freezer. I broke the ice storage out and noticed the ice was melted and refrozen. I removed the ice and have no ice in the storage bin. The ice maker was still in the off position and did not have any water in it. So the only source of the water was the ice storage bin melting and refreezing. I actually thought the problem was the ice maker and now I don't think so. Please help

SOURCE: Symptoms: Ice cubes melt, drip then refreeze causing

are you having any cooling problems? take a look at your ice cream, if you have any. does it look like it has melted and refrozen? if so, you have a cooling problem, and that is causing ice to melt, then refreeze. if you have no cooling problems, then you may have a faulty water valve solenoid, or even a faulty icemaker.

Sometimes ice melts in ice maker. Water drips down and refreezes.

There is a heater built into the ice maker bottom to help release ice cubes from the machine. Under normal conditions the heater only come on when the ice maker starts to run and then jambs against the frozen cubes. When it stalls and jambs against the frozen ice cubes, the heater comes on to melt the cubes enough. I think you have a defective ice maker and the heater is coming on to much or at the wrong time, Since your temps go back to normal with the ice maker turned off, I am almost sure thats your problem.

Ice maker quit working but water dispenser still works, the reservoir to make cubes also empty.can you advise?

If the ice maker tray is empty you may have a water valve failure. usually this unit have a dual valve 1 for the dispenser the other one for the ice maker some time a side fail and the entire solenoid have to be replace. the ice maker can also be bad. an easy way for you to test if ice maker is good is by putting water manually inside the ice maker tray depending on how cold is your frig wait about 2 hrs or less if the ice maker cycles and drop ice then water solenoid is the problem if not then replace ice maker.

I have the exact same problem, curious if you have any answer...

If the ice melts in the ice maker I think something strange is going on with the heating element below the ice maker. It comes on only for a few seconds before the ice drops. And is used to loosen the ice. But if water continues to flow from the water control valve while the ice maker is full it has no where to go but into the freezer and refreeze. Sometimes the water control valves have trash buildup inside the valve and will not shut and allows the water to continue to flow. About the only way to solve that is replace the water control valve and place a pre-filter in the line before the water reaches the valve. Thanks, Sea Breeze

I am assuming you have the ice maker that the tray twists to release the ice. There is a new tray out with a wall to prevent the water spilling over. The part number is
