Replace cartridge message with CIS that has been working fine.
Epson R340, using CIS, did long print run and then received message to replace the yellow cartridge. I have turned off, switched back on after short, medium and long time (1 min., 5 mins. and overnight) Have attempted to use SSC Service Utility (V. 4.30) but am not sure whether this was used correctly by me. I have cleaned the chip surface with IPA and Windoline, I have replaced the cip - no success at all - just requests to replace the cartridge. I also have an R300 and did a similar thing but this recovered after using SSC and is fine still. Any advice would be much appreciated please. O/S =Win XP Pro by the way.
Re: Replace cartridge message with CIS that has been...
Same problem with my R200. In reading solutions across net, said to use genuine Epson yellow and after finished, save chip from it to use on other non-genuine yellow. As soon as I put the genuine Epson yellow in, the problem went away.

The printer must detect unique 'chips' on the ink cartridges before it will print. Non-Epson ink cartridges may not have the right chips. Or there may be a bad electrical connection between the carriage assembly and the chips when cartridges are in place. Anything preventing the chips from being electrically connected, (including dirty contacts), can cause the error. In my case the chips were not staying in place on the ink cartridges. Since I am using a CIS (Continuous Ink System), the chips had been replaced, but were not staying in alignment with the contacts on the carriage. I used a very small amount of hot melt glue to secure the loose end of each chip to each cartridge. I have not received the error message again.
Possible printhead or driver issue. Are you using Adobe photoshop? Please try to print also using a different application to isolate the issue. Make sure that you are using correct epson cartridges. Please print a nozzle check pattern. If you see gaps, missing colors or missing lines on the pattern, clean the printhead using the driver. If the nozzle check pattern printed out successfully, please trash and re-install the drivers. The driver is available on epson.com
Its Epson design. It means it already reach it maximum reliable printing service. But you can extend its service using Epson resetter. Its a third party software utility program. It will reset its counter to zero count again. Counter resetting is on the printer itself not in the ink cartridge.
see which colours are missing, run through a few head cleans and print another nozzle check see if there is any improvement
also replace the cartridges of the missing colour they may be dried up. have seen this before where a 3/4 full black cartridge just completely stopped printing
if the problem still persists then get a syringe or an eye dropper and some form of spirit (I have used vodka in the past but clinical alcohol is recommended as not as sticky)
choose change cartridges from the menu then remove the power cord. with the cartridges removed you now have access to the printheads.
using the syringe (or eye dropper) place the nozzle on the spike that goes into the cartrige and inject a small amount of the alcohol leave this to soak for a few mins then mop up the excess with a cloth repeat this a couple of times put the ink back in power up and run another head clean (you can also put afew drops on the spounge that sits under the print head during the head clean
print the nozzle check again you shoudl see most of the nozzles are now working run another head clean if desired now try with a pic
have used this on various epson printers including a stylus 700 R340 & 360
