No connection between my internal hard disk and my laptop

Hi
The ref number you give is for the hard drive only and not related to the laptop, so I can only be fairly general. Often on laptops the hard drive is fairly easy to get at and I would first check that the drive is securely seated and firmly connected to the SATA connection inside the computer. Remove the battery before removing the drive cover.
If it is securely connected, try powering up again. If this doesn't work, power the machine off completely by holding the power button down for about 10 secs. Press the button again and during the early part of the boot up sequence press the relevant button to enter the BIOS programme. I can't be sure which particular key starts IOS setup for your computer as they vary quite a lot. Your manual will tell you however. On my Toshiba for example its the Esc key, on others its the F2 key, and others the Del key.
Once in the BIOS you should be able to navigate through the settings and find out if your drive is being recognised at this level. If it is then try to boot into "Safe Mode" to repair the installation, otherwise it probably needs to be reformatted and the recovery disks used to revert to factory settings. If you do this you will lose all your data and non Toshiba programmes that you have installed.
If your drive is not recognised in the BIOS, it is highly probable that the drive has become faulty and needs replacing.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Ps3 starts briefly and shuts down

You might have a problem with your motherboard. I had the YLOD with my PS3. I made the mistake to let someone open it and it got damage even more, i would recommend you send it to VideoGame911.com they were extremely low with price compared than the manufacture and all my data games were saved. Hopefully it all works out!

Will not turn on. green light on power cord is blinking but the unit will not turn on (the disc do not spin). need to recover files on HDD

Is this a Laptop or Desktop?

When you plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with the laptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problem is with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and take note of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoever when you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you was operating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cord is bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the power cord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can put the battery back in and let it charge.

Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Hello All, My dell latitude e5510 freezes when I try to play some videos, it may work for some time but it freezes after some time. This happens quite more times and I can only exit form the situation...

The laptop may be overheating. Check that all vents are clear and dust free. Listen for the internal fan. This should operate only occassionally. If it is operating all the time and speeds up just before the laptop freezes then something is causing the laptop to overheat. If the fan cannot be heard at any time, then the fan may be faulty.

500 GB Seagate freeagent classic - windows 7 won't start when power cord is connected. Okay to connect after boot up and HD works find. Is there a workaround that will allow the external HD to remain in...

Most likely the problem is that your computer is trying to boot from your external hard drive and that why windows 7 wont start up but it is a very easy fix. with the freeagent attached start up your computer system and when the first BIOS screen is displayed press either the F8 key or the ESC key to enter BIOS setup it should say on the screen which button you need to press. Once you press the correct button the BIOS set up screen will load there should be tabs at the top and select the boot tab, under the boot tab there will be a list of devices in the order that the computer will try and boot off of them all u need to do is move your freeagent to the bottom of the list and every thing will work perfect.

I hope this helped.

Thank you,
Norse

Toshiba satellite pro 4200 wont start, just 1 flashing amber light

I had a similar problem on SatPro6100. Mine was LSSSLSSL (10010001).

Thinking that the laptop was buggered I decided I would take it apart and have a look at the insides.

Whilst it was apart I also disconnected the BIOS battery.

Couldn't find anything that looked like it had burnt out so put it all back together again.

When I turned it on again the darn thing was working fine!!!
Go figure!!

The whole thing was apart for about 2 hours or so.
I don't know if it was removing the main battery and leaving it out for that time or whether it was resetting the BIOS (by disconnecting its battery) that fixed the problem.

Anyway, I have managed to get all my data off the laptop so not too worried if it screws up again.

I do however always disconnect the power source BEFORE shutting down the laptop and only reconnect it after I have pressed the on button. Seems to be working fine (for now!)

Hope that helps someone out there!

Laptop won't turn on

keep pressing f12 when the computer first starts up this should show a list of boot devices, choose the hard drive. if the boot menu doesnt show up youll need to go into your bios setup and make sure the hard drive is the first boot device. if it still wont boot then you likely have a faulty hard drive or connector. Im guessing you dont have a backup of your assignment? You may need to take out the hard drive and have someone who knows what they are doing plug it into a desktop computer to retrieve your documents off it.

try turning it on and off at the main switch. If the power failure had caused issues with the HDD or system, Windows would do a scan after you boot up..
