The white smoke is oil - did you overfill the oil ? if you tipped the machine your air filter could be full also - if this is an old machine it could be ready to throw a rod but not enough info from you to tell

check your oil is it up to full, then I would check to see if you have compresson, pull your plug and roll over and feel with finger ,but don't touch spark plug wire or you will light up! next I would check for spark, then for fuel, make sure the carb is getting fuel,,,check your hoses and fuel cap and clean your carb and needle/seat and make sure gas will run through the fuel line. Also you could have sheared a flywheel key

the choke out you are talking about could of been a lean condition and smoked the eng rings
Good Luck compresson test should tell all 2StrokeJim

The leaf blower will cut off not long after it is being operated. After sitting for a while it will start again but cut off after a few minutes. Also, when the unit first starts it makes a rattling sound...

Sounds like the front seal is out. If the starter rope is on the front of the engine this is probably the problem. In this case it is not economically worth the repair unless you can do it yourself. If the starter rope is to the rear of the engine, you may get away with adjustments or a carb kit. I don't know which it is. Hope this helps you.

If you are lucky, you have only sheared the flywheel key and messed up the blade. The flywheel key is under the top cover and under the flywheel along an indent in the side of the crankshaft. Those parts would have to be removed to check it....most likely it's sheared (broken) which is what it is supposed to do (most are made of aluminum) when the blade hits an immovable object. It CAN be fixed and there are videos and forum HOW TO's on this subject. A new key is very inexpensive and replacing one is a good learning experience.

Toro lawnmower appears flooded and won't start.

Actually all you have to do is take out the spark plug and pull the engine through several times. What has happened is the intake valve was open when you tipped the motor so when the fuel ran out of the carb into the engine it saturated the spark plug. You may have to by another spark plug to get it started or dry yours out very well. The main thing is to make sure that most of the liquid gas has exited the cylinder.

One more thing.... the float needle may have tilted a bit in the seat as a result of haging it tipped on its side. This is going to sound a bit strange BUT... grasp the handle and alternately bang the front and rear wheels on the ground a couple of times by lifting the back of the mower with the handle about 2 inches and drop it. Do the same by pressing down on the handle for the front tires. (2 inches and drop)
IT WORKS!

This should get you going. IF not just respond here and we can continue troubleshooting.

Lawn mower not working

If you can you need to try to check for spark. The spark plug is in the front part of the lawnmower with an insulated wire hooked up to it.

White smoke and blade won't engage

Sounds like a low compression problem. The piston rings have most likely failed and oil is seeping past them and burning, thus the white smoke. An engine needs three things to run...Spark, Compression, and Fuel. Just take the mower back as it is still probably under warranty. Mike. Rate 100% please.

Toro GT5 lawnmower - the pull cord (to start the engine) only comes out about 3 inches - I'm afraid to pull to hard for fear of breaking the line.

First - remove spark plug and squirt 3mls of engine oil in there - replace spark plug and leave overnight.

Try pulling that start handle !
Two things may happen - it snaps or - it turns over.
If it turns over - prime fuel and start in choke setting.
If the cord snaps - undo the pull start block - and take it to a lawnmower spares depot, and buy some more cord. It's quite cheap.
Get the length right so you don't have too much.
Next - the engine is probably seized - so needs freeing up. You may be able to do this with the new cord, Otherwise - take the head off the cylinder and tap the piston down with a wooden drift while turning the crank.
Use a non-setting gasket sealant like hematite red to re-use the old gasket. Lawnmowers are quite resilient.

Oil causing a problem?

Sound as if you have too much oil in the machine. Anytime you see white or lite gray smoke it is a sign of too much oil. Before you go through the routine of cleaning the oil out of every nook and cranny, try unscrewing the spark plug and clean it with a soft rag. It would have oil on it preventing the machine from starting. If this does work and there isn't a lot of oil in the gas tank now, just continue running the engine until the smoke clears. It won't hurt anything. But if cleaning the plug doesn't help you will have to empty all gas and oil from the gas tank, refill with new gas, squirt a little gum out carb cleaner in your carb to remove any oil there (this can be done when you try to restart the engine). Remember, when you are mowing grass if you are mowing on a hill) of any knd, make sure to turn the mower so the gas tank is on a higher level than the oil.

It wont spark at all. No fire. Just put a new spark plug so that's not the issue. This lawnmower is only 1.5 years old. Thanks

Could be magneto bad, wire from magneto bad, ground on magneto bad, or the clearance between the flywheel and the magneto is rusted up if it was outside. Clean flywheel with sandpaper and set magneto gap using a match book flap.
