How to set the defrost duration on a timer

Copy following link for defrost timers:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#defrost

There are 2 general types defrost timers.
Time activated - Time terminated
Time activated - Temperature-pressure terminated, with timed termination back-up

Here is basic image:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/8145-work-image.jpg
Rotate dial until current time lines up with pointer, insert tripper pin on outside edge of dial to select defrost start-time, move defrost duration tripper on inner dial to set termination time.

Each defrost timer is slightly different:
If timer is time-terminated, then wiring follows certain diagram.
If timer is temperature-pressure terminated, then different wiring diagram is used.

1) If circuit breaker is not tripped or shorted, then timer clock motor has probably gone bad.

2) Some places still sell paragon timers, depending on model number.
But model number given is for 240Volt timer.

3) The clock motor is not available that I can find.
Paragon is no longer making the 4000 series timers or parts

4) Model number given does not match wiring terminals shown in manual.
4014 is DPST 240Volt timer with 4 wiring terminals labeled 1 2 3 4.

5) Paragon 4000 series timer with terminals 1 2 3 is 120Volt timer.

Moved time pointer on pool timer to set time than read instructions moved pointer back to original spot now timer does not click on or off when it passes pins

Timer brand and model number are not shown.
Brand and model appear on inside of timer door.

Moving stationary pointer will not affect on-off operation of timer. The pointer is just reference for setting current time.
Worn trippers can cause problem.
Trippers are softer metal and designed to wear down so timer mechanism lasts for decades.

Intermatic pool timers use set of 156T1978A trippers.

Tork timers use P47 tripper on 24-hour clock dial
http://www.frontierlighting.com/find.jsp?a=1&ID=,Photo.Cells...Time.Controls,Replacement.Trippers
Paragon 4000 series uses X2772 tripper. Paragon timers are discontinued and trippers hard to find.

Apparently, the spring under the timer dial on my 4001 timer has been broken and the timer will no longer trip the trippers. Can this be fixed? It is a nearly-new unit and I like it.

Open following link for Paragon resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#4000

Individual parts are not sold except for X2772 tripper.
Move the manual override lever back and forth and see if load turns on-off.
Watch if on-and-off trippers are moving override lever back and forth, to see if problem is a worn tripper instead of broken spring.

Replacement 4001-00 timers are sold, even though Paragon is no longer making timers except defrost timers.

I might not understand the problem correctly.

Open following link to identify timer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#1015

From your post, the large dial on your timer can be pushed up and down?
Or are the trippers popping up?

The dial is supposed to rotate clockwise during regular operation, and can be manually rotated either direction to set current time, but dial should not move in and out or up and down.

If the trippers are worn, then they are built in. The problem is that Paragon is no longer making parts and does not support 1015 timers.
It's possible the trippers might be getting pushed up if the on-off mechanism needs lubrication.

I have a Paragon 42013-20 timer, no longer manufactured. I need to find replacement trippers. Thanks for any assistance.

I cannot find a brochure showing specific paragon tripper numbers.

You have Paragon 42013-20 timer, DPST 10Amp 2Hp, Nema3 indoor-outdoor, 24 hour-timer with 48 trippers built into timer dial.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#42000
If trippers are worn out, you can possibly work-around by rotating dial 12 hours so fresh trippers can be accessed using same dial. The only difference is nighttime hours shown on clock face will now represent daytime hours.

Intermatic Cross reference shows replacement timer is T1976R
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service/competitive%20cross%20reference.aspx
http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/catalog/pages/014.ashx
http://www.intermatic.com/products/timers/mechanical%20time%20switches/24%20hour%20dial%20with%20skipper.aspx
http://www.drillspot.com/products/648036/intermatic_t1976r_24_hour_electromechanical_timer

Difference between your paragon timer and suggested intermatic, it that Paragon throws both terminals at same time, while Intermatic has alternating NO NC terminals.

How temp. disable this timer, without loosing program

You posted under Paragon 42013-20 240Volt indoor-outdoor mechanical timer.
The 'program' is how you set pins on the dial.
Pins cause electrical switch to turn ON-OFF

http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#42000
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Paragon-42000-sell-sheet.pdf

For example if you disconnect electricity to this unit.
Clock dial stops rotating, but pins are not changed.
When electricity is connected again, manually rotate clock dial until current time lines up with red pointer.

Pointer "B" was moved, contrary

http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html

The link above shows all the Paragon timers.
If you have the Paragon 4000 mechanical timer, then the pointer is at the 8:00 position.
To set current time, you lift and rotate white dial until current time lines up with the 8:00 position
If this is not your timer, then add a comment with your timer and model number and I'll look it up.

We have an AMF Paragon 4001 timer for the light outside our building. The light goes on lately at the wrong time. We want it to be on at 7:00pm and off and 5:00am but it goes on at 12:00 at noon.

To set paragon timer: Pull large round dial straight out towards you, then rotate dial until correct time is lined up with stationary 'pointer' on front of dial
