Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

1 Answer

HP dv4000 battry not charging.

Ive had my lap top for about 3 years now. The original battery has been "dead" for about a year or more. I recently purchased a new battery. The new battery came 75 percent charged and worked fine in my pc. When this battery started to go dead I found out that my pc is not charging it. I have a high suspicion that my original battery was OK, but my pc just wasnt charging it.

I have tried some of the trouble shooting listed on the hp help and support site. I did get the charge light on my pc to come on and blink a few times and that was it. Are there any updates that anyone knows of, or can anyone tell me what the prob might be? My pc works fine on ac power with or without the battery in it.

Thanks in advance.

Lap top is not charging

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

The lap top don't recognize my battery

If you haven't replaced the battery in recent years, it is entirely possible that the battery is fully dead and won't be detected by the operating system. You can try taking the battery out and putting it back in. Updating the BIOS on the laptop with this could also be worth a shot as it can correct battery detection issues.
