Did you install the exhaust manifold that came with the unit?

It was not factory installed on mine when I received it and the set up/break in instructions did not mention it. There is a plastic plug on the side of the head where it is threaded into.

I had the same issue with slow buildup until I realized this needed to be installed - pressures up in no time afterwards.

Double check that the drain valve is fully closed on the bottom of the tank. Once it reached 100 PSI, did it stay pressurized or did the pressure drop? Did you run the initial break-in procedure described in the manual? Do you hear any air leaks?

When cold compressor starts and fills up with air. after used with power tools, the compressor wont restart.

you may have a bad pressure switch:

Unplug the compressor. Drain the tank down to zero. Close the drain. Get down close to the pressure switch and have someone else plug the compressor back in while you are closely monitoring the pressure switch. Do you hear anything happen? Do you see any movement in the pressure switch.
by plugging it in with the tank at zero pressure, you should hear a click as the pressure switch trips due to low pressure. It should trip and send power to the electric motor. If this doesn't happen, you may have a pressure switch problem.

My compressor will not turn off

check the pressure switch should be a little black cover with 1 screw holding it on it works the same as a water tank pressure switch contacts closed ON contacts open OFF or the pressure relief valve may be bad it is usually a couple off inches long and about the size of a quarter if it is open the compressor will not be able to build enough pressure too open the pressure switch

D55152, left gage shows 40psi, right gage 100. Whats going on. how can i buy a manual? thanks

The right guage is the actual tank pressure. The left guage is the pressure for the air hose. If you turn the adjustment dial the air pressure guage on the left will go up or down. You should be able to go to the dewalt website and find an owners manual for this compressor. I personally own this compressor and it is a good one.

My d55141 air compressor was humming before it kick on now it does nothing

I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A SIMILAR DE WALT COMPRESSOR.
FIRST THING-GET AN ELECTRICAL TEST METER,MAKE SURE THE POWER SOURCE HAS MINIMUM 110 VOLTS,LOW VOLTAGE IS A PROBLEM ON CONSTRUCTION SITES,BEING AN ELECTRICIAN FOR 21 YEARS I HAVE WASTED A LOT OF TIME LOOKING FOR PROBLEMS WITH MACHINES AND POWER TOOLS AND DID NOT LOOK AT THE OBVIOUS.MANY TOOLS WILL NOT WORK WITH LESS THAN 100 VOLTS,AND CAN ALSO BE DAMAGED BY LOW VOLTAGE.
IF THE VOLTAGE IS 110 VOLTS UP TO 125 VOLTS,THE NEXT STEP IS LOCATE AND CHECK THE CAPACITORS,THERE SHOULD BE 2,ONE IS START,THE OTHER IS RUN.REMOVE THEM ONE AT THE TIME TAKING CARE TO MARK WHAT WIRE GO TO WHAT TERMINAL.WITH A DIGITAL TEST METER ON CONTINUITY,PUT ONE LEAD TO EACH TERMINAL ON THE CAPACITOR,THE READING SHOULD START COUNTING UP OR DOWN,IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH WAY AS LONG AS IT KEEPS COUNTING,AFTER 30 SECONDS REVERSE THE LEADS TO THE OPPOSITE TERMINALS.THE READING SHOULD COUNT THE OPPOSITE WAY FROM THE FIRST READING,WATCH FOR 30 SECONDS.
IF YOU GET READINGS BOTH WAYS,THE CAPACITOR IS GOOD.INSTALL IT BACK ON THE MACHINE.
IF YOU GET NO READING OR JUST ONE WAY,THE CAPACITOR IS BAD AND MUST BE REPLACED.
REPEAT THE PROCESS ON THE OTHER CAPACITOR,REPLACE IF NEEDED.
THESE STEPS SHOULD SHOULD GET YOU UP AND RUNNING,BUT I HOPE IT IS JUST A SIMPLE LOW VOLTAGE PROBLEM.
LOW VOLTAGE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY VERY LONG EXTENSION CORDS,OR WEAK BREAKERS.
IN THIS NEXT STEP,BE VERY CAREFUL,GETTING ENERGIZED COULD INJURE OR KILL YOU.
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS,CALL AN ELECTRICIAN.
A GOOD INDICATION OF PROBLEMS IN THE NEXT CHECK OUT IS OTHER OUTLETS HAVING LOW VOLTAGE,MEANING MULTIBLE CIRCUITS

TO CHECK BREAKERS,REMOVE THE PANEL COVER OF THE POWER SOURCE FEEDING THE OUTLET YOU ARE PLUGED INTO.
WITH A DIGITAL METER,PUT THE BLACK LEAD TO GROUND,AND WITH ALL BREAKERS ON, TAKE THE RED LEAD AND GO TO THE SCREW HOLDING THE WIRE IN EACH 15 OR 20 AMP BREAKER TO VERIFY 110 MINIMUM VOLTS AT EACH BREAKER.
IF YOU FIND ONE BREAKER WITH LESS THAN 110 VOLTS,REPLACE IT.
IF YOU FIND EVERY OTHER BREAKER WITH LESS THAN 110 VOLTS GOING DOWN EACH SIDE,YOU HAVE MAIN POWER ISSUES AND SHOULD CALL A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
BEST OF LUCK....

The compressor fills up with air fine.AS i start

I would check the pressure switch. It probably has bad contacts in it. You could try to clean the contacts first before replacing the unit.

Will not pressure up even though it runs and runs and runs

Check for leaks of course... THEN check the check valve AND the Compression Relief valve which is OFTEN cintained in teh pressure switch. This valve bleeds the compression left in the head so the thing can restart without a pressure load. This is a small pintle that closes when the pressure switch starts the compressor. The check valve is the other thing and it is often a part of either the head or the pressure line to the tank at the tank.

Does not eject air

It sounds like your pressure regulator is not working properly or it is not adjusted correctly.

If you need more help, post a comment.

Will not auto recharge properly

Hi,

From what you've written for your problem, I would say that your pressure switch is malfunctioning, as this is the part that regulates when the unit starts and shuts down.

It might just be the settings of the load spring, If your familiar with working on electrical devices see if you can manually engage or disengage the pressure switch. If this turns the unit of and on, it leaves you with only two problems. The unit is not reading the pressure or it's not sensing the pressure. Either way it calls for a pressure switch replacement

Hope this helps.

Compressor comes on and hums and goes off and does it again, ?

The fact that your compressor completes a cycle indicates that the motor and pump are probably working correctly, however when the pressure switch cycles off there should be a slight release of the air that remains in the airline. If this air is not released thru the unloader of the pressure switch the motor cannot overcome the back-pressure in the airline and just hum. There should be a 1/4 in. hose extending from the pressure switch to the checkvalve in the tank. There is a small tab and needle valve that releases the air. Also check that the tank checkvalve is not leaking air back into the airline as this would cause back pressure. Finally, failing motor start capacitor will cause motor to hum. Weak capacitor will start motor when cold and no pressure in tank, but when things heat-up and with pressure in tank, motor may not have enough power to overcome load and hum. Enjoy
