If you have set your clock correctly and it still loses time then you may need to change the battery on the motherboard

Tip

Show AM / PM Symbols in System Tray Clock in Windows 7

1. Type intl.cpl in RUN or start menu search box and press Enter. It'll open Regional and Language Options window.

2. Now click on "Addition Settings" button.

3. Go to "Time" tab and you'll see the value of "Long time" will be set to HH:mm:ss. Just add tt at last of the value, i.e. change the value to HH:mm:ss tt

4. If you want to show the time in 12 hour format (06:30 instead of 18:30), then change the value to hh:mm:ss tt

5. That's it. Click on Apply button and you'll get the AM / PM symbols back in system tray clock.

I installed 2 new banks of 512 MB RAM in my COMPAQ PRESARIO S3000NX. The COMPUTER PROPERTIES SHOW INSTALLED RAM TO BE 480 MB ( Not 1GB as I expected) Why is this happening? George McGeachie...

Your bios may need to be flashed so your motherboard with recognize the ram. It also may be fixed by adjusting the speed of the ram in your bios settings. Be carefull and read about doing both of these procedured in your mainboard manual( should be able to get a manual from the compaq site if you do not have one). You can mess up your computer real good if things are set or flashed wrong. Good Luck

Motherboard timer is not working properly

Every PC motherboard has a battery. That battery serves two purposes: to feed the configuration memory (also called CMOS) and to feed the real time clock of the computer (the one that show the date and the time).

An indication it is time to change the motherboard battery is receiving one of the following error messages when you turn on your computer: CMOS CHECKSUM FAILURE, CMOS BATTERY STATE LOW, CMOS SYSTEM OPTIONS NOT SET and CMOS TIME AND DATE NOT SET. Another indicator of a low battery is a clock that, after being set, runs well while the computer is on, but shows the wrong time when the computer is turned on the following day (it is late).

The motherboard battery can be built using three different technologies: Nickel-cadmium (NiCd), NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) and Lithium (Li). The Lithium battery, which is a round one (the size of a coin) and can be easily found at watchmaker's and computer parts stores, has long been the most used type. To buy one of these batteries, all you have to do is to look for a model CR2032 one.

Replacing the motherboard lithium battery demands some care. It seems to be a simple task, but it is not.

The lithium battery may use basically three socket types: socket with upper tab (Figure 1), socket with lateral tab (Figure 2), and the socket into which the battery stands instead of lying (Figure 3).

Fig 14e23e4b.jpg

Fig 2

While the replacement of the battery in the socket with the lateral tab or of the one that stands is simple (Figures 2 and 3) – all you have to do is draw back the tab using your finger or a small screwdriver and replace it – the replacement of the batter that has an upper tab covering it (Figure 1) demands extra care. In this type of socket, if you raise the metallic tab to replace the battery, it will lose its pressure and will not make contact with the battery anymore, damaging the socket. In this case, the correct replacement of the battery in done pressing a small plastic lock at the side of the socket with the fingers or using a small screwdriver. That will allow the battery "to slide" laterally, not damaging the upper tab.
Whatever the socket used, don't forget that the replacement of the battery should be done while the computer is off.

Sound wont play and cd rom is missing light comes on no drive shows in my computer

i guess the question is not very clear to me .. but off what i can figure out, in your desktop
1) sound doesnt come
2) some problem with your cd from (kindly elaborate)
for the sound card there can several reasons for the sound not coming
1) Drivers not installed properly
2) you might have installed wrong drivers
3) (Happens in really old comps)if u have moved the cpu cabinet a lot lately, sound card could have been displaced from its socket, in such a case just take out the sound card clean it once and put it back again
Most of the times it is the driver which is not getting loaded properly, trying opening windows in safe mode, if the problem persists try reinstalling the driver.
and as per the CD rom problem kindly elaborate..
Cheers

HP compaq d530c timer running fast

you may check and see if it's set to the "internet time" -> "automatically syncronize with an internet time server", if there you have a wrong server, then it'll reset your time wrong, or if you have another timezone set in windows, than it'll update to that timezone.

secondly, if it's a hardware related issue, than it can be the battery
