hi i would like to doownload a movie from the internet onto my computer then on to dvd in order to watch it through my tv. idont understand which movie i pick on the download site? my dvd player is mp3 but plays copy disc's so would that mean i pick any mp4 because it doesnt offer an mp3?
the site im downloading from has the dvd i want but it offers 6 different types, they are:
avi ???
mov ??
mp4 ??
mpg ??
mpeg ??
rm ??
or alternatively do i pick anyone that says dvd rip oon it??

- thanks gingo, just a quick one, why is there so many different formats to chose from anyway? nowadays Is most dvd players divx? and why can u buy blank dvds if u cant use them or u can use them but only with dixv players?thaanks for your speedy, informative reply, it really helped me

The following formats can be played on Windows media player:
avi
mov
mp4
mpg
mpeg
Normally DVD players cannot read compressed formats, if you have a regular DVD/MP3 player, that wont read any of the formats above, or with some luck will read only uncoded Avi, mov or mpeg.
The formats above are all compressed formats, and often they need additional software call codecs, they can be read on computers, but they generally are not working on dvd players.
To be sure that a DVD will read compressed computer movies, you need a special DVD player with Divx , like the one below:

you get so many formats because each company that produces software worked in developing his own proper format, for example apple developed Quicktime Mov, Real. com the RM format etc.
Majority of new DVD readers can read blank DVD recorded on computer, you must check that they have DVD +RW DVD -RW written on specifics.
Many new DVD also read automatically Divx, and accept all common computer file formats.
