MY POWER STEERING STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS A MONTH AGO, THE POWER STEERING RESIVOR WAS HALF EMPTY. I FILLED IT AND 2 WEEKS LATER IT STARTED MAKING NOISES AGAIN. IT WAS JUST A BIT EMPTY. IT KEPT MAKING NOISE, BUT WENT AWAY AFTER I TOPPED IT OFF, LAST NIGHT I PUT A NEW AIR FILTER, TEST DROVE IT, THEN IT STARTED LEAKING A BIT, BUT THIS TIME VERY EVIDENT LEAK COMING FROM OPPOSITE SIDE & under filling area. Is this a hose since its not making noise?
Could be a failing hose or hose connection "O: ring
take it to an accredited power steering shop for a proper diagnosis and new hoses if required
When a power steering pump begins to fail, it's best to replace the pump and both pressure and return hoses to this system.
Recommend you replace this as soon as possible because it could eventually cause damage to your steering rack and pinion.

k,
"The leak" is probably not the pump. A closer inspect might reveal a bad hose, hose fitting or worse yet the "rack" has a bad seal. Who ever diagnosed the leak did not look close enough to verify the source of the leak. The washer story sounds suspect too.
I would take a small inspection mirror ( 1" or so in diameter), and look with a focused flahlite on exactly the drips of power sterring fluid are cming from. Some reputabile shops have a UV dye and use a black light to trace,,, but a good sarp eye and searching will spot the source leak.
Then you need to take the hose or part to the NAPA , or your choice parts store and save the money a shop or dealer would charge...
good luck jerzil

Just a heads up, $10 bucks will buy you a seal kit for the P.S. pump. I topped mine off for a couple months, then the oring on the high pressure line (from pump, front center) blew and dumped the reservoir in a matter of miles.
The line can be a stinker to get off, recommend driving the car for a few minutes to heat up the pump a little. Don't forget the 20MM wrench.

Try under the dash, attached to colum is a switch that the rod goes into from your ignition key switch, that may need to be adjusted tword your steering wheel just a touch, they go out of alignmnet from time to time

i can tell tbhat my car is not running the same since the power steering was a bit empty. What a **** place to put the PS tank. was hard to get 2. i assumed when i had my oil changed the would fill it, but it wasnt but 2 months since i had my oil changed & it seemed that they didnt fill it, which was the 1st problem. it shoudny have gotten low to make noises when turning till i filled the PS tank, Now im having problems with it, i filled it for the 3rd time, but wasnt empty each time, but now leaking. I think its coming from a hose, but cant tell. how could i determine if i need a new PS unit?
