Whirlpool 28" drop-in stove replacement

I have a 28" Whirlpool drop-in stove that needs to be replaced. The problem is the opening between the cabinets is only 28 1/4 inches. I have not been able to find a replacement stove. There is enough cabinet wall to cut, but that seems to be a professionals job and not mine. Am I correct or is there a better solution? I tried runnng the model number on the internet, but I think the stove is to old (20 yrs). Help!!

We have a Kenmore drop in 28" gas stove.
Same problem as Rstegall311's. Don't want to cut the cabinet.
Also afraid of ruining the floor.
Any suggestions? Tired of using my toaster oven!

Generally you just need to place a flat blade screw driver in the crack about 3 inched below stove top and pry up, this exposes the entire under pan of the stove top.

GE Profile slide in is 28" counters are 30" what

so the whole is 28" and the range is 30" this sounds like a carpentry task or exchanging for a differnt stove really nothing you can do to the stove I being a carpenter as well as an appliance repairman have cut the counters shorter in order to fit a stove if your not used to doing finish carpentry hire a carpenter it will be well worth the money and shouldn't cost that much to shave off two inches. please message me back if you have any furhter questions and please remember to rank this opinion Thanks again

The installation depths provided in the installation literature, are the minimum requirements for fitting the slide in range into place. You need to determine what the depth of your opening is where you intend to install the appliance. The depth shown on the installation instructions might be showing the overall depth of the appliance, including the oven door, which typically sticks out from the cabinet anywhere from 1-3 inches, depending on the brand, model, etc. The old Magic Chef might have only provided the needed depth for the oven body, and might not have included the front oven door projection, past the countertop, etc. Most cabinents are about 24 inches deep, so anything larger than that, will likely stick out into the room more, unless your cabinents are deeper than 24", you're looking at having the new slide in oven stick out past the front cabinet front/edge, by about 4 5/16". I'd make a cardboard template to the dimensions of the new oven and use that to see just what you're facing with the replacement oven. It could be possible that you've confused the depth with the width for the new oven, as I've not seen many ovens that are as large as 28" unless it was a Viking, or other really high end, professional style oven, etc. Check your installation dimensions again for the Maytag and make a cardboard template to confirm how much space will be needed. The good news is that you can remove the old Magic Chef, since it's not working, to allow you to make a more informed decision as to fit and clearances required for the new oven. Just be sure to disconnect the power to the range or unplug the power cord, if that's what it has, before attempting to remove the slide in. Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Open the backguard on the range to access the electronic control. If you read 120 volts into the control and nothing works,...replace the control.

Whirpool electric oven replacing bake element

In addition to what aborcass stated, I just had to fix the same problem. Remeber to turn off the power before you do this. On my stove the element acess is behind the side panel (right side when facing the stove). You remove two screws on the back and one underneath at the bottom, (you need to pull out the drawer). Once screws are out, slide the side panel forward gently about an inch and it should just drop off.
You should see the wires for the element level with the bottom of the stove. The wires will guide you to the element. And you should see that the element is screwed in with two screws to the stove. This is the tricky bit, to remove the element follow the metal piece holding the element to the right until you see a third screw. Remove this screw and the whole thing will come out. Take off the wires, replace the element on the metal strip, slide the element and metal strip back into the stove (take care to ensure the left side of the metal strip slides into the proper position under the metal clasp. Re-attach the screw, plug the wires onto the element and turn the power back on. You should have heat.
Good luck.
