Question about Boating
Control unit does not receive the correct angle of rudder and showing reversed directions of rudder. is this a sign of my rudder reference gone bad? and has to be replaced? then what product as there is no more st6000plus available?
Hi, the first thing I would do is check the wiring from the course computer to the feedback, on both ends and also check the rudder feedback mechanical link to the rudder.
It is possible that the problem is in the course computer but a problem with the feedback wiring or the feedback itself is much more likely. If the wiring looks ok and the mechanical connection looks ok, I would then check the feedback potentiometer to make sure it moves smoothly when the rudder moves. You can check it with an ohm meter. Depending on what it reads, you can then replaces the feedback or do further troubleshooting. The feedback is a just a 5k ohm potentiometer. Here are instruction on how to test a potentiometer.
95% of the time, problems like this are problems related to the feedback and not the course computer. I don't know if there is a reset for the computer, I would have to call the factory and ask, the manuals don't mention it. If it turns out that you do need a new feedback, I just so happen to have a new one in my shop.

Testimonial: "Thank you John, I have fixed problem after viewing the page 151 of the manual you sent which gave me a hint that I fixed the reference in wrong position so that it produces opposite direction and travelled only short distance resulting to restricted angle of rudder even when actual rudder turned fully. Thank you again. "
