Hello, was the unit just installed and always shows reversed direction on the angle indicator or was it operating properly before and just all of a sudden stopped working? Also, is the rudder angle indicator running on a standalone system meaning that the rudder reference AKA feedback is connected directly to the angle indicator or does it go with an autopilot also?

Hi John, Thank you for your feedback.
My system(ST6000+ Autopilot) was working well incl ridder direction which is shown on the bottom part of the head unit. One day while cruising in auto mode, all of sudden the rudder indicator(bargraph) went to port in full length but boat swang to stbd. Soon after situation managed by steering manually. Since then the rudder indicator showing opposite directions and bargraph indicates only 6-8 dgrees even when actual rudder angle was in full (30 deg.). Could it be a problem in course computer? ST6000+ Autopilot system is working with the course computer Type 100/300 which to be located yet. Is there anyway to reset the couse computer?

    Thank you John,
I have fixed problem after viewing the page 151 of the manual you sent which gave me a hint that I fixed the reference in wrong position so that it produces opposite direction and travelled only short distance resulting to restricted angle of rudder even when actual rudder turned fully.

    Thank you again.

Hi, the first thing I would do is check the wiring from the course computer to the feedback, on both ends and also check the rudder feedback mechanical link to the rudder.
It is possible that the problem is in the course computer but a problem with the feedback wiring or the feedback itself is much more likely. If the wiring looks ok and the mechanical connection looks ok, I would then check the feedback potentiometer to make sure it moves smoothly when the rudder moves. You can check it with an ohm meter. Depending on what it reads, you can then replaces the feedback or do further troubleshooting. The feedback is a just a 5k ohm potentiometer. Here are instruction on how to test a potentiometer.
95% of the time, problems like this are problems related to the feedback and not the course computer. I don't know if there is a reset for the computer, I would have to call the factory and ask, the manuals don't mention it. If it turns out that you do need a new feedback, I just so happen to have a new one in my shop.

Check if rudder reference unit is installed as before ,it seems that the pilot sense that the rudder is turning the wrong way. check when giving +10 command the
rudder turns to increase the heading,if yes, it could be the wiring of the rudder reference unit or it was installed the wrong way after service on the rudder.

the rudder setup needs to be done. follow prompts, very common to be screwed up, read directions carefully and make sure that if it says steer hard starboard, it is hard starboard before you proceed! 847-746-0100

Linear rudder refernce Furuno 500 auto pilot will not pass test?

light on board is probably normal no, this is an inductive pickup, can not test with ohmeter, sorry. Test with display, observing rudder angle display. Do rudder setup repeatedly until it works, it is a little fussy for placement and clearance but patience and the correct "bracketry" will make this pilot perform great.

The linear drive should have an adjustment screw on the arm so that it can be adjusted to show when the rudders are central. you will need to centre upm the rudders then loosen the screw and adjust until the guage shows the centre position. May take some fiddling to get right cause sometimes when you centre it the guage won't read correctly in the port or starbord directions (won't go all the way over). May need to re-position the whole unit.

AP35 Autopilot

Yep, if rudder calibration values are OK, then there is a real problem with calibration, it can be a mechanical problem or a faulty rudder feedback unit. Follow procedure at page 93 of user manual :
AP35 Autopilot Instruction Manualto troubleshoot the error, if you cannot get rid of the error message you may have to replace the rudder feedback unit or to have the unit inspected by a technician.
