Webcam installation webcam not working

On Windows 7 and Windows 8 you can usually just plug in the webcam and wait a few seconds for Windows to automatically install basic/generic "driver" software which allows the webcam to work. You can check if the webcam is recognised and installed by going to Control Panel/Device Manager. In the Device Manager window locate and click on "Imaging Devices" to see your webcam listed. If there's a yellow exclamation point (!) or nothing listed under Imaging Devices then the webcam is not installed. In this case unplug the webcam, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in and see what happens.
With some webcams you must install software and drivers BEFORE you plug the webcam in. In that case, unplug the webcam then install drivers from a CD included with the webcam or download the drivers from the maker's website and install them. Make sure to choose the driver version specified as compatible with your version of Windows. After installing the drivers, restart the computer and wait for it to boot up fully, then plug in the webcam and see if it works.
One last possibility is that your webcam is too old to work with newer Windows versions. For example, we have an old Kodak DVC325 webcam which worked OK in Windows 98, ME, and Windows XP with SP1 and SP2, but it does NOT work in Windows XP with SP3 or any newer Windows version. Too bad, really, because it's a darn good little webcam!

The best way to overcome this problem is to re-install driver.

Test your webcam here by hitting "allow" in top window and seeing if webcam displays in left panel

1) Working OK = Webcam hardware (cam and connections) are functional and installed software is problem

2) Not working = Fault with hardware - Take laptop to techshop or disable software and install plug-in webcam

1) Expand 'imaging' file in Device Manager and right click on text for webcam - 'Update driver' using internet option.
2) Uninstall webcam software, restart computer and re-install using CD ) 3)Uninstall webcam software, restart computer and re-install using webcam manufacture's download from support website
4) Uninstall software and if computer has 'New Hardware Detection' facility reboot allowing the software to install automatically.

If its a dark screen what you can see then you can do one thing "on the cam window under OPTIONS check/uncheck the PREVIEW option" and check if its working.
If it says "no video capture device found" then the drivers you have installed are not fully compatible with VISTA, for this you can do one thing---
1. Remove the previously installed webcam drivers, delete the installation folder from Program Files if its still there, disconnect (unplug) the webcam, reboot the system , Scan the registry using ccleaner (freeware).
2. Install the program you use to access the web cam (eg: amcap etc).
3. Now attach the webcam (be connected to the internet), when the driver installation screen pops up click "Install automatically" it will search for the system files for the drivers or go to the windows update (this works many times) if not found.

Once done & successfully installed the webcam shall work fine now.

double check your msn settings to see if its configured to use your webcam as its webcam device. try running the phillips software first and see if the webcam is actually functioning and verify that its installed properly...you can also just try a simple re-install of the camer and see if that works. soemthing silly...see if the camera has an on/off button (they usually do for privacy to turn it off immediately and it doesnt neccessarily say "on/off".

You need to install the proper drivers for the webcam.
The installation of a webcam itself is simple for a USB or built in webcam.

If you do not have the drivers, you need to try a hardware identification program or driver update tool.

Do the driver for your webcam come together when you bought your webcam....?

Your computer must recognize the hardware you are installing. When you instal a harware first put the cd installer let installer wizard guides you. Or goto control panel click add hardware then wizard will guide you.
