A310 shows USB icon on powerup

My A310 camera (now about 2 years old) has suddenly developed a problem...on powerup, it shows USB/DSC icon even when not cnnected to PC. I connected the camera to PC and turned it on; the PC reported 'unrecognisable/malfunctioning USB device'. Request help on how I can fix the problem. Thanks a lot in advance.

Nothing for you two and at this age the cost a repair will be well on the way to the price of a replacement.
