    Thanks Joe, found that it needed a realtech driver instead of the C-media driver. So, I installed it and everything is good now.

Don't believe Device Manager.

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=1512

To the right of Audio Driver click on Download.
A small window will come up on the right -

Opening Audio_Realtek_5.10.0.5250_XPx86_A.zip
Click on Save File.

A small window will come up on the left.
IN this window tells you where the driver file will download to.
It's in the wording at the top. You may wish to write it down.

The wording may have;
Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in it.

{ This is for WinXP. It is different for Vista, or Win 7.
You are downloading an audio driver for XP, so this info applies }

Desktop: The audio driver file will be on your desktop screen.

My Documents: Click on Start, then on My Documents.

Downloads: Click on Start, then My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

When you see the audio driver file, DOUBLE-click right on it.
This is a Zip file. A Zip file is used to transfer a lot of information easily.

There are two routes. Two different paths that may be seen.

1) After you double-click on the audio driver file, you may see the Unzip Wizard. Click on - Unzip.
Then on the far left side click on Extract all files.

2) You may not see the Unzip Wizard. Go to the far left side, and click on Extract all files.

In the 3 small windows that come up. Just click on Next, Next, and Finish. DO NOT click on anything else to make changes. Windows knows the proper place to put the audio driver file.

After you are finished close all windows, go back to the desktop screen.
Restart your computer. Have the volume down, or you may puncture an eardrum.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

    Yes, understandable.

    That would be because it is a REALTEK audio chipset.

Usually the limit is 3.12GB in any 32-bit Windows OS. In-order to achieve full 4GB recognition you should install a 64-bit version. Here you can read some more information.
