I believe there is a battery backup for the memory & it may have run down. I don't know if it's a consumer or factory fix. Consult the owner's manual. If you don't have the manual, copy & paste the URL I've provided to your browser & that will take you to the 2820 manuals page. The quick reference & owner's manual are available free as downloads. Good Luck.

Turning the "Simulator" on turns GPS off. So, try turning the simulator off. You'll find instructions for how to do that on p. 38 in the owner's manual.
Here's a link to download a copy of the owner's manual if you don't have one:

First of all, if the device is having a problem, it wont turn on. Even when it is connected to the computer, the webupdater will not recognize it.
You need to run a test on somecomponents on the nuvi, like the battery, the charger and the connection port. Try to insert the battery into another grmin nuvi 1450, then you check if it will power up the device, if it does, then it means the battery is okay, but if it does not, then it means the battery is bad and need to be replaced.
Try to test the charger by connecting it to another device. If it charges the device, then it means the charger is okay but if it does not charge it, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.
Now further test the connection port. if the connection port is bad, then you will have to replace the connection port. To test the connection port, you will have to connect the nuvi to the computer, using the USB cable, if it does not charge, or turn on, then it means the problem is from the connection port. It need to be replaced.
That is how to test your device. Once the problem is fixed, then your garmin nuvi will be able to connect to the computer.
Hope this was helpful to you. Goodluck Elect_Comp
