Question about Belling BE811 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Belling BE 800 Fridge Freezer

In the last few days my fridge freezer has stopped working. The heating elememt for the auto defrost is continuously warm and keeping the frige compartment warm. The frrezer section is now slowly defrosting. I imagine it's a thermostat issue. Anyone experienced such a problem and what can be done to rectify.

Fridge won't chill and freezer is now defrostitng - even though the fridge is running, the light is on, the internal fan is on and I have cleaned the coils at the back and checked the connections. I have also made sure the internal vents are not blocked. The fridge is only 1.5 years old so I am disappointed to see hear that other customers have already had to replace parts on their relatively new Belling fridges.

The fridge had been producing a large block of ice at the back (inside) beside the fan. We never knew why this was.

I recently started storing a lot of heavy Le Creuset casseroles and pots on the top of the fridge. I read somewhere that stuff stored on the fridge could effect cold air circulation so I have now removed those and am waiting to see if the fridge chills again. I'll keep you posted.

On integrated appliances the power supply is invaribly behind the unit. However there is normally an isolator to the side of the unit or in a side cupboard. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: frost free combo unit fridge keeps getting warm

Hi: You have a bad defrost heater or defrost timer. I'm not familiar with the brand but the heater will be below the evaporator coils in the freezer ( in the back behind a panel.) When you do your defrost that your dad told you to do, it will work until it frosts up again. You are doing the work of the defrost heater. I hope this helps, Jeff

Belling bk29 fridge freezer. freezer working but fridge not working. compressor running, thermostat set to 5, light working ok, defrost switch off.

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Freezer works fine, fridge compartment cools but has stopped cooling as good and has recently stopped cooling. did a manuel defrost on fridge and freezer worked fine afterwards, now doing the same thing...

Oncce the fridge was shut off and left for a while the cooling had come back . If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
If after about 6 hours you observe cooling it is possible that the defrost timer is faulty.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
replace the defrost timer, heater or thermostat one you have confirmed to eliminate one by one.

Once the fridge is shut OFF for few hours to defrost and then switched ON , if the fridge works with cooling , then the fault is with the AUTO DEFROST TIMER or the circuit -maybe the heater, break in the lines to the timer, heater, the fan.
The build up frost will block the flow of cool air to the fridge from the freezer evaporator.
So remove and check.

My freezer is working and my fridge does not, it is warm, and the controls are on the front of the fridge,

You have a defrost problem, After a few more days the freezer will stop working also. If you would defrost the unit by turning it off then it will start back working, but will only work for about 5 to 7 days. You will need to determine if it is the mother board on the back or if it is only the defrost heater. To do this you will need to remove the defrost heater in the freezer and check it for continuity.

GE Profile - fridge not cooling

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Fridge freezer side by side running constantly but not cooling.

Make it a habit to defrost it every week. You see, when ice forms around the evaporator tubes (which runs around the walls of fridge and freezer), heat exchange reduces (that means heat is no longer absorbed from the things inside the refrigerator) and cooling stops. See whether freezer walls or fridge walls are damaged. Do not use knives or any other sharp tools to remove ice. Do not forcefully remove items that are difficult to take out from the freezer. Defrost and remove them.

Freezer works, fridge doesn't cool

Probably excessive ice in the condensor. Likely defrost thermostat or defrost heater problem.

What happens is excessive ice keeps airflow from the refrigerator part of the unit.

  • yes, refrigerators have heaters in them to defrost the buildup of frost around the coils
  • they defrost approx. every 12-16 hours
  • if the defrost cycle gets stuck then it will continue to heat
  • i have seen it melt the plastic inside the refrigerator

  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad thermo switch in freezer
  • i would replace both as they are not expensive

Zanussi fridge freezer - fridge not working

The defrost cycle is not happening like it should, that's what causes the block of ice (and poor air flow). If you have all that defrosted look at the defrost bi-metal, it usually is a small round disk with a couple wires coming out of it and it's clipped on the coils. When it's cold enough, it passes electricity to the heat elements, when it gets hot enough it "opens" and kills power to the heat elements. If that is bad (swollen cracked or bloated) and not passing electricity to the elements that's the problem. Another item would be the defrost timer itself, if it doesn't work (no clock motor turning) then it will never go into defrost. And the last and usually least expected failure would be the heat element themselves not working
