There is an issue with the a small yellow part of the AC plug breaking off in the camera. The camera thinks it's still plugged in, so it won't run on the battery. If you can get a small tool to fit into the inlet you can break the piece up and pull the parts out. I haven't had any luck with it, but read others doing it.

This is a User Guide for the MG630, 650, and 680. Not sure how close the models will be but I am sure they are similiar. Worth a shot.
