Windows xp home edition reinstall

My brothers HP Pavillion a620n had Windows XP home edition pre installed. His system crashed and he asked me for help. Well he left and did not give me his backup disk.Used my original WindowsXP home edition disk to get his system to work. When I put in my disk the computer stated that his home edition was newer then mine.still used my home edition and got the computer to work Now have his disk and was wondering if his disk will be okay to use or do I have to reinstall my disk and have it do a format on the system before I use his disk?

If you use his disk, that will be better, because if it is original HP disk, it should install all original drivers at all, however this may delete all files on the computer depending on the type of installation you do.

Installing an older version of XP home does not make a big difference , as windows will update the system using automatic updates. What must be done, is ensuring that all proper drivers are installed.

Check device manager, in control panel/system, and see if all devices are installed with proper drivers.

Windows xp home edition re-install repair

Buy a cd drive and reformat the computer completely and that will for sure get rid of the password protection. If you want to save all the information on the computer, then you will also need to buy a new hard drive and take out your old one.

Windows XP Home Edition on HP Pavilion a367c

Are you able to successfully enter Safe Mode? Are you getting a brief blue screen before the computer restarts?

A possible solution (if you can't get into Safe Mode to further diagnose the issue) is to repair the Windows installation with a Windows XP Home CD. If you know someone with such a disk you can use that with the product key that should be on a sticker on the back of your computer. Otherwise, HP should be able to send you an XP CD since you have an authorized copy of Windows on your computer.
